Yep... another school shooting & here I am posting this again for the 2nd time this year. We're only in the beginning of school. This time it hit close to home in a friend's school district. When are we going to protect children. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! #edusky

I wrote this poem a few years ago after a school shooting. I posted to social media, hoping I would never have to post it again. But, sadly, knowing deep down I probably would. So...here it is AGAIN. #edusky

Image of teacher and students huddled together, hiding with a poem over the image.
A Teacher’S Poem
Ronald M. Nober

I’ve trained and prepared to lead my team, my squad into the unknown.

My god I look at them so young, so innocent, but we know we must be ready.

I’ve practiced with them evading, eluding line of site, and detection.

The team knows the warnings, alerts, and when we can safely emerge.

The team knows that stealth is our only weapon to avoid the dangers.

I hear politicians say they hold us in their hearts and send us their thoughts and prayers.

I survey the area looking for cover, evaluating the danger, and drill our tactics with the team.

I monitor people I see looking for signs, subtle signs for those who may wish us harm, fearing it could be anyone I see.

Same image of teacher and students huddled together. Poem continues.
I look to the our country’s leaders for help, some support, anything of substance they can offer. Maybe nothing is possible, maybe they aren’t aware of what we face, or could it be they really don’t care.

I’ve prepared for worst case scenario learning to pack and dress wounds of war in hope it can save lives.

I go over and over battles in my mind knowing I am prepared to lay down my life to save those in my charge, like many in my position have done.

Well...this is life in the military?

Well...this is life as a soldier?

Well...this is life in war? In combat? In a battle zone?

NO

Same image of teacher and students with the end of the poem.

This is the life of a teacher in OUR schools?
SADLY...Welcome to our schools.

Here's a new one to add. It is written & beautifully illustrated by @mrdearybury.bsky.social. It's called THE RAINBOW TREE, a beautiful story of love, acceptance, community, and caring. A great book to start the school year.

The @teachernerdz.bsky.social are BACK! We're kicking things off with an episode featuring Dave Werner! This educator, surf school owner, and environmental champion is sharing his wisdom on how you can empower your students to become environmental stewards. Available now on all podcast platforms!

A comic book-style illustration features a muscular, bearded man with glasses surfing on a red surfboard. He wears a green T-shirt that reads “SAVE THE OCEAN” and red shorts. The scene is set against a vibrant tropical background with blue skies, palm trees, and crashing ocean waves. The artwork uses bold lines and halftone shading to give it a classic comic book look. The man is smiling and giving a thumbs-up, portraying him as an energetic and environmentally conscious surfing instructor.
