If $TSLA actually used their engineering talent to design and build a quality $25-30k EV they could have sold a million per year. Instead they squandered it making the Cybertruck which is the biggest flop in modern automotive history. 🤦

They almost certainly would not allow it in my opinion. The European wireless businesses have been begging for permission to consolidate into fewer entities so they can be more profitable to afford to make bigger upgrades to their networks. I expect more consolidation to happen.

The ONLY lemonade I can make out of the disaster / dumpster fire that is the Trump admin is that the world is moving faster to transition to renewable energy/ local energy + EV’s. Legacy fossil fuels are too expensive and volatile and the cost of solar and batteries continues to decline.

The AST SpaceMobile constellation (supporting low band spectrum) should be in Beta testing early in 2027 and commercial operation later in the year. The only major MNO partner SpaceX has in Europe is DT and that partnership is unlikely to last.

We know that $SPCX just spent $8B on 14Mhz of low band spectrum, after spending $19.5B on Echostar mid band spectrum. Unless they are going to start buying MNO's in Europe that route won't work. Without Europe the economics of D2D are 🤷. Partnership with MNO's is the 🏆.

This innovative approach in theory enables a dramatically lower cost way to have a constellation for smaller countries who want sovereign solutions. SpaceX prioritizes mass to orbit however clever orbit design and low cost antennas are another approach.

Sven-Erik, I have been paying close attention to Meridian Space's new constellation design. On October 1st they launched their first test satellite (build in collaboration with NanoAvionics - A European satellite bus company). Looks to be VERY low cost. www.meridianspace.com

I watched as much of the video as I could stand. The NY does a massive disservice to this country and is so f'ing smug about it. They should feel SHAME at their coverage. In addition, they steal the work of other independent press and don't give sufficient credit. TY for scolding them.

Well they shipped 3 to Florida earlier this month and we have seen evidence of lots more in the cooker from the videos they have shared. Obviously they hit a testing snag for BB14-16 but I would 100% rather they find and fix issues before launch. All evidence points to big increases towards 12/mnth.

I probably should! It would be the most logical and desirable outcome to have all the Indian carriers pooling spectrum to improve D2D connectivity. The prices in India are VERY LOW so the amount of capital to invest in new towers is limited to higher density locations.

Its means having a 50/50 revenue share model and a bit of humility. The MNO's spent a ton of money to build their networks and acquire their customers. They own that relationship rightfully. SpaceX wants to sell home internet and compete with their partners. Good luck with that.

Yes, $SPCX has a number of current partners offering their current text messaging service. However that is very much a short term transactional approach. The MNO's know that SpaceX is not trustworthy and didn't build a solution designed for them. SpaceX doesn't share nicely.

Some of the moves we are seeing the stock price have been triggered by the decision of $SPCX to purchase low band spectrum last week. That sort of news fools people who don't really understand what is happening here. 2 years ago SpaceX was trying to win the MNO's as partners. They failed.

Despite the massive selloff in $ASTS over the past few months my conviction remains as high as ever about their ultimate success. They will become the world's largest subscription business (with a very modest ARPU but still massive monthly revenues). Why? Because they are the partner of choice.

SpaceX has been reliable but I would much prefer to use other suppliers for obvious reasons. The Blue Origin setbacks this year really sucked in terms of reducing our launch cadence however AST is clearly still working through scaling issues to get to 6/month. I think they are heading to 12/month.

Some nice context for the discussion about $ASTS vs $SPCX when it comes to business models. As you can see, DT/TMUS make up a pretty substantial portion of the current partners for SpaceX. If they were to switch allegiance to AST that would be a big hit to them.
Pie chart showing the alignment of MNO's and subscribers with providers of D2D services. AST has approximately 3B potential subscribers and SpaceX is much smaller. In addition, the bulk of SpaceX subscribers comes from Deutche Telecom / TMobile US. Would be a big blow to lose them.
