Ah, right yes, that’s perfect. So much good work out there you lose track so easily. One of the witnesses describes the victim’s blood dripping in the most extraordinarily visceral fashion, poor student was quite shocked!

I have a great honours undergraduate working on a grim murder in Bermuda in 1837. The inquiry is strikingly full of sounds, smells, sights, emotion. I read a fair bit of sensory history but does anyone know of recent(ish) work on this period specifically connected to court testimony? #SensoryHistory

Me too! The curated element is such a strength. When I subscribed I panicked a bit at the “leaving category”, and hurried through in an unorganized fashion. Much better to sit with a collection indeed.

monkey. The circus is in town! replied the barman. The circus, the monkey said, are they the ones with the great big tent? Yes, that's them, the barman replied. Huh, said the monkey, well why would they want a plasterer?

The barman in a small town was wiping the counter prior to the noon rush when a small monkey in overalls entered the bar. The monkey climbed into a stool and ordered a pint and a sandwich, and started to read the newspaper. The barman was at a loss for words so brought the food and was soon busy

He replied, “oh you only see me from behind walking away from the camera.” He added, “it’s a tongue in cheek film.” I suggested that was a phrase I did not want to hear after his telling me his ass was on film…

Given where we are, and culture here, more than few students are performers or musicians of various kinds. My older actor student, a great big guy softened a bit in late 50s, told me this afternoon that he’d just been in a short art film. He said he was nude in it, so I thanked him for the warning.

Not a fan of the “the strength of this book is in its detachment” endorsement. It is not enough on its own, or centred as though a unique revelation, but a bit of attachment is no bad thing. I’d rather read Scanlan’s Slave Empire than Taylor’s The Interest, for example, though happy we have both.
