Because these funds come solely from DC taxpayers, this action doesn't bring any cost savings to the federal budget. This is not an act of fiscal responsibility. This is a purely political, punitive action with no impact on the federal budget, but will have a detrimental impact on people's lives.

NEW: WIRED got IP blocked by the Social Security Administration, among other outlets covering Musk's takeover. Federal workers are now "prohibited" from accessing our reporting on "government-furnished equipment." WaPo, NYT, and MSNBC are likewise banned, sources confirm.

This week, the Trump Admin is planning to implement 25% tariffs on Canada & Mexico as well as an add'l 10% tariff on China. This would come on top of the 10% China tariff already put in place on Feb 1. @budgetlab.bsky.social published an analysis today of all of these tariffs together in tandem 1/8

NEWS: The USAID official put on leave for disseminating two memos about Rubio's failure to push through life-saving foreign aid was in the process of writing a THIRD memo when fired. We obtained it. It's far more alarming than the first two. www.thebulwark.com/p/what-a-wee...

1/NEW: My colleagues Robbie Gramer & Daniel Lippman & I address the question on many people’s minds in Washington: Is Trump going to shut down USAID? (This version is behind a paywall, but I’ll post the free version once it’s available in the coming hour): subscriber.politicopro.com/article/2025...

POLITICO Pro: Trump is wreaking havoc at USAID. Is the goal to shut it down?
The president’s failure to name a USAID administrator and other steps seem to suggest that, at the very least, he’ll fold USAID into the State Department.

The OMB impoundment memo's consequences aren't just about disrupting, in a profound way, *current* funds. It also makes it extremely hard to negotiate *future* spending deals if no one at the table can trust that the executive branch will actually stick to the deal at the execution phase.

Just re-upping this fantastic explainer thread, on how an EO cannot just rename an international body of water, and we need to stop describing patently illegal EOs as "doing" the things they legally cannot do. And if any big international corp (Apple, Google) buckles, hope other countries push back
