Nowhere in the world can you get a cab license without knowing the local language. That’s a fact. Whether you like it or not.

This is from our recent vacation in Maui, Hawai. We were there a couple of days ago… being in Hawai is like standing at the edge of the world because you can see the horizon more than 180 degrees. It’s surreal. Like standing on a coin…no picture can capture it. #photography

Deleted a pinned post by mistake. It had great comments & plenty of likes. Cannot replicate it...but what did it say really? That I'm not someone you can label...neither a centrist, nor rightist nor a leftist. I am just Me. Believer in human rights. Do I disappear without the likes? Nope...

This article is not an attack on Fauci but western nations, that's how I read it. But now I realise with whats happening in the US why people might think like you do. I am not following those events. I saw the analysis as a collective responsibility...a criticism of the West.

Yes of course but this isn’t really about one man. As you said one does not know what really happened and we may never know.

And this is happening in developed countries. The horror stories in poorer countries are best not talked about.

Nowadays a lot of inferior material is being published by the Top 5 because the authors are celebs.

Each book has a different purpose - some are meant to entertain, some to make you think, some are informative, some sheer poetry. Many are a bit of everything. I like those the best.

Was never a book snob. At 15 read Lin Yutang & Leon Uris with equal fervour. Enjoyed Gone with the Wind as much as Tess of the D’Urbervilles. Here's a small published piece of mine, published in the Deccan Herald two decades ago. Yep...that long ago! #booksky 📚💙 #writingcommunity #humor

Must be a fringe element who doesn't want him there. He should not bow to them. Extremists and racists who see people as a group should be stood up to.

Food for thought: Christian countries non-believer % high. (US:31; UK: 37; France: 53; Aus:39) Shinto/Hindu countries Japan/India non-believers zero, altho 70% practice culturally not religiously. Islamic nations: No non-believers. Nigeria, a mix of Christians/Muslims - no non-believers.

By moderate it does not mean dilution of ethical issues. It means believing that it’s possible to work together to find practical solutions. It’s a rejection of radical solutions to any problem.

Political moderates are seen as disloyal by both sides, acc to research by the American Psychological Association. Bad news for democratic systems because they rely on compromise & negotiation. Moderates are the ‘glue’ that helps bridge ideological divides.. www.apa.org/news/press/r...

Street student protests in India divided people to the Right and to the Left. It was hard staying in the middle but one thing became clear. All right wing people parroted the same argument while each person left of the spectrum had something different to say.

I agree there is a need for better statistical data. That’s the first step. May be the upcoming census might throw some light on it. But it’s time a real debate started on this but as it’s a political hot potato no one even wants to discuss it.

An AI agent went rogue - should we be worried?
OpenAI revealed this week that an AI agent went rogue and escaped during a security test. It sparked renewed calls for greater protections and guardrails for artificial intelligence.

an income cut-off. Anyway as a commentator pointed out to me it shows that I am thoughtless and not intellectual. But I also believe that struggle builds character and motivates individuals to succeed. Yes tremendous historical wrong was done but quota system needs revision.

Some sc/st entrants can certainly afford them. 5-10% of sc/st are rich and as many as 60% are not poor, meaning middle class. Average middle class parents make sacrifices for their children but anyone from sc/st does not have to. So there should be
There is no income cut-off for the Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) quotas. A student from these categories receives the full reservation benefit regardless of how wealthy their parents are. Vajiram & Ravi +2

They’ve made it so difficult to vote in India now that it’ll backfire on BJP. Older people are tired of getting multiple documents, having their centres changed, re-verifying identity. Older people tend to vote BJP. Youngsters will go out of their way to register and vote the govt out.

One extreme to another is never a good thing. A balance needs to be found. I see a lot of angst in youth today and this also has to be taken into account. An 18-year old doesn’t have that kind of wisdom. If this is the pendulum, well, it can swing back.

Unfortunately by mistake my post got deleted as commenting further on it.. In my main post I mentioned that 60% of reservations in education is one of the causes for migration abroad. Had a good discussion with Ashok. That exchange also got deleted.

So in my main post I said that one of the reasons for migration abroad was the 60% reservations in educational institutions. Sorry Ashok your comments got deleted when the post was deleted and so were a lot of replies!. I have clumsy fingers!

Check this out. Wealthy individuals are getting into colleges with barely any fees because of their caste. The system is skewed.
000
Nita K @nitajk.bsky.social · 26/07/2026
It will take a long time to improve the system. Also please research the marks required to get admission for exams other than NEET. You can get 40/300 to be qualified to get a seat. So not sure about potential. Govt should broaden the net to include all disadvantaged people.

Nita K @nitajk.bsky.social · 26/07/2026
So if they are economically weaker they need the quota. So then why not make the quota for those who are? Not a single undeserving ( creamy layer) should get it as it is injustice.
100
Nita K @nitajk.bsky.social · 26/07/2026
Yes but it’s not enough. There are thousands of families poorer and more disadvantaged than those who get these benefits. The sad thing is that even books and fees are lesser so it causes a lot of heartburn.
120
Nita K @nitajk.bsky.social · 25/07/2026
So this 60% are all disadvantaged? Is that what you think? The reservation is meant to serve disadvantaged people, right? Why should caste be the criteria? Give it to everyone below a certain income level, whether Muslim or Christian… but no politician has the guts.
200
Nita K @nitajk.bsky.social · 25/07/2026
Yes. But even if income levels are high and the person comes from a successful family, they get quota. I believe that reservation should be based entirely on income levels, no matter religion or caste.
000
Nita K @nitajk.bsky.social · 25/07/2026
Wonder if you are aware that a lot of people buy sc st certificates ? It’s a racket. It’s must be based on economics not caste. Even Muslims and Christians should be eligible.
100
Nita K @nitajk.bsky.social · 25/07/2026
Not arguing with that. Was referring to be educational opportunities. People I’m referring to not interested in govt jobs. Reservation creates disillusionment amongst youth when kids of rich parents get quota. They feel India has no future and so they want to leave. They feel the system is rotten.

A good college is a ticket to a good job. Also a solid education builds excellent skills which enable a person to succeed. The people coming out of third rung engineering colleges will languish unless they have native intelligence. A good education on the other hand can enable an average person.

For example I was never a brilliant student and would not have got into a medical college or IIT but I feel disillusioned with our country reg reservations because I firmly believe its should be on basis of economic status not caste. The reservation system in India is unjust and a joke.
