6.) The Empty Man (2020) - A supernatural crime procedural where a down on his luck PI starts to uncover a conspiracy around an urban legend, there's some interesting stuff here and it's a pretty decent little 95 minute movie. Unfortunately, it's 137 minutes long. Absolutely plodding pace. 2/5

5.) The Hills Have Eyes Part II (1984) - On the other hand this sequel is almost the inverse, the effective bits drowned out by slasher silliness, super-blindness, and most unfortunately a really dark cinematography that takes away from the harsh desert daylight of the first. Didnt care for it. 2/5

4.) The Hills Have Eyes (1977) - A lean and mean movie from Frightmaster Wes Craven. I think some of the tension legitimately built by long pov shots is hurt by the villains mumbling for the camera but it’s hard to deny the movie remains effective even despite some of the sillier aspects. 4/5

3.) Life (2017) - A slickly produced and well cast space monster flick that feels like it wanted to ride a bit on the coattails of 2013s Gravity while adding a gooey tentacle thing into the mix. Never actively bad, but it never rises above the obvious either. Another 3/5.

2.) Hive (2026) - Watched to grab something I'd never heard of before while browsing Tubi, I can definitely say I didn't see where the fuck this movie was going for most of the opening half hour. What starts out as creepy killer kids becomes something much weirder, if not actually that .. good. 3/5

Spooktober 2026 begins! 1.) The Addams Family (1991) *Rewatch* - I wanted something cozy and imminently Halloweeny to start the season off right, and this movie never misses. Easy 5/5 even if a more rational part of me has some nits that can be picked. I simply do not care.

Continued my Spooky Season `26 viewing with Loop Track (2023), a New Zealand film about a crushingly fragile guy who gets more than he bargains for on a hiking trip in the national forest. Segues smoothly from psychological terror to creature feature. Beautiful scenery, good monster FX. 🦤🦤🦤🦤/🦤🦤🦤🦤🦤
