As this first meet was about info gathering, the next stage is planning, and so the next planned meet is in the Spring. In time this could be something, but not quite yet. Finally, some good news for me: Because only half the registered attendees showed up, there was a lot of leftover free lunch,

Most in attendance were either Indigenous folk with small to medium size businesses, or governmental types. Years ago when I was in school under Keavy's mentorship I had access to and gained experience with governmental types. Lately I seem to be interacting more with business types.

We went through the questions I mentioned on my previous post, and gave post-it note anonymous answers whiteboards in the room. We then discussed the answers publicly. The main goal was to take a collaborative approach in deciding what Indigenous Tech Circle's role would be here in Edmonton.

Semantically def x : concord_A = 5 : int : compile time ("define x from concord A to be a compile time int of value 5") would make more sense. What interests me is when you split up the memory space into concords, the idea of a variable is also partitioned.

Anyway, I will go and see what this Indigenous Tech Circle group is all about. My fear is it's a facade, and is pretty much just white people trying to assimilate and indoctrinate us yet again---that there'll be folk there who have already drank the kool-aid claiming Indigeneity but otherwise act

This in the sense that we have different ways of operating in life and relationships, and so Indigenous youth might have the talent and education but not the understanding of industry culture, its norms and expectations. This inevitably prevents hiring, and prevents recognition of expertise.

From my experience, there needs to be more interop between the mainstream tech industry community and Indigenous communities.

and by extension interop between the C++ and Rust communities. Thanks @lefticus.bsky.social for continuing CppCast! I have no idea if I can get a job in tech, I've pretty much lost hope, but I would still like to see Indigenous youth succeed where I couldn't, if I couldn't.

I spent a large part of last night thinking about it more deeply though, and the answer I've come up with is: "community interop." I got the idea (and I think wording) from the latest CppCast episode, although in that case it was interop between C++ and Rust, www.youtube.com/watch?v=-gNQ...

My initial answer to these questions in general is that I'm disconnected from Indigenous communities in many ways, plus being Inuit I'm on Cree/Blackfoot land, so mostly I'm attending to find out what the Indigenous tech scene is like in Edmonton.

and influence tactics rather than expertise + recognition of it. Then again, as an Indigenous person: White folk have never put stock in Indigenous worldviews, cosmologies, expertise, etc. So maybe things are just more of the same. Either way people skills will be more valuable in the near future.

The major purpose of this new goal would be to have a functional programming language with its own static reflection. Certainly still within C++, but given the constexpr nature of it all, it wouldn't be difficult to use C++ and my library to turn it into an actual compiler and programming language.
000
Daniel Nikpayuk @nikpayuk.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
I'm recognizing now the power of concords is such that it likely makes more sense to implement an embedded functional programming language DSL in C++ where in this given language you can also have concords. This wouldn't break its type system because concords are just specific types and values.
100
Daniel Nikpayuk @nikpayuk.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
From there I would build an embedded DSL (still in C++) with simpler and cleaner grammar than C++ to assist in implementing future concords for other embedded DSLs as well as compiler tools. The embedded concord DSL would "become" mini-functional languages which returned C++ concords for C++ use.

Daniel Nikpayuk @nikpayuk.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
Instead I took an Inuit philosophy of design approach and felt out the flow, rather the breath of my library, such that it breathed easy and healthy. I also aligned my designs with math and type theory. In any case, I arrived at concord theory. The plan was to build a C++ DSL for concord theory.

Daniel Nikpayuk @nikpayuk.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
It's origins were in many ways a means to an end: I wanted a compile time functional type system to effectively replace all the C++ compile time hacks I'd learned over the years. If all I wanted to do was implement, I could have reshaped my proof of concept code from nearly 3 years ago.

[cctmp] I'm taking a short break from working on my parser generator's FOLLOW algorithm. Currently I'm reevaluating my goals for this project. As I'm finally starting to build actual compiler tools, I'm realizing this "concord theory" I've developed is more significant than its origins.

The idea is once you "group" a flat array into a structure, you can annotate selections with types (possibly external to the existing type theory). With such annotations, you can keep a history of manipulations, which will be very useful for implementing DSL static reflection. Thanks.
