Exactly my thoughts. I laughed out loud when I read the "internal" databases part of the sentence.

This is wild - somebody did a deep dive into the real stories behind this famous XKCD: sheets.works/data-viz/hol...

an XKCD comic showing a precariously assembled tower of blocks. much is labelled "all modern digital infrastructure." a thin leg down at the bottom is labelled "A project some random person in Nebraska has been thanklessly maintaining since 2003."

Read this on the Monday morning exactly as JUICE would have been flying over Australia. Good write up. Great start to the week! Now it's time to give it some juice.

Given the oil crisis in the mid 1970s and the gradual move from gas guzzlers to more fuel efficient (Japanese) cars, having a truck driving protagonist in movies could be an intentional thing by the industry and storytellers. Seems more than just correlation to me.

The grit, the skill and the enthusiasm of racing early in his career is great to see! He fully deserves the championship this year whenever he gets there. Tough pill to swallow for Russell but this race was a fair representation of reality.

Gloria Steinem, Dolly Parton.... Truly inspirational women who personified the correct meaning of the word "strength". Their passing is a huge loss to the society we find ourselves in today.

I'd be more worried about the roughly 22% people who "don't know" or "skipped" it. That decades-long engineered apathy is the crux of the issue in politics today.

. @ourfakehistory.bsky.social The path me and my dog inadvertently traced this morning while listening to the back episode of "What went down on Easter Island". It sure looks like a slightly-tilted Moai head on Rapa Nui. Totally unplanned, but as a nerd, I'm happy it turned out that way.

It would be great if @mapquest.com became available on Android Auto when driving. I know, I can see the irony, but I'd prefer to use it over Google Maps now. I'm not buying an Apple phone just because MapQuest is available on CarPlay.

Makes sense, thanks. It now feels crazy to think that in a year when a driver could burn to death in a car shunt, like Lauda almost did, one could have a part of their racing overalls not covered by fireproof material. Very different time indeed.

Beyond the obvious panache, it is interesting that the front of his racing shoes have been cut off to give room for his toes to stick out. That is often seen on fast bowlers in the game Cricket. Was this common in car racing for the era, @thebishf1.bsky.social ?

They probably missed it because their priors were based on power / monarchy which gave you access to money, not money that gave you power which is the case in the last 120 years or so. Today the congress, senate, judiciary and executive is also beholden to that "money breeds power" dynamic.

I'm happy that Count Binface has taken the stigma out of seeing otherworldly characters in official spaces, outside of a Halloween party. They seem to be more in touch with the on-ground reality than earthly humans.
