So I've coded the mechanics for the escape room game i want to make. Now to actuality DESIGN the game that uses said mechanics. Going to good old index cards because i can tell looking at the computer is putting me in the wrong frame of mind. #gamedev

I'm glad #Godot has the offset transform update for control nodes. I'm less excited for the mindless wiggling and twisting buttons are going to be doing in menus. "Oh juicy buttons <3" yeah, what flavor of juice??!! Lazy turn for a cozy cat game? A sudden jolt for a FPS? Slide and grow for racing?

I figured out the save file stuff i was struggling with. The scrapbook system I'm making in #godot to eventually be used as a spellbook now saves and loads it's stickers on the correct pages. Now to work in the overlap detection to build spells out of stickers #gamedev

at that #gamedev stage where I feel like I confidently understand JSON but for every program that uses JSON, I feel like I'm doing wild experiments to understand that program's exact nuance for reading and writing a json file. Just spent hours over complicating the process of saving JSON in #godot

So I'm learning that what i mostly want from art is "human expression" which is why AI art feels so hallow even when it should look good. I like to mull over the thought process and methods. And then when it feels like a betrayal when something i initially liked turns out to be a AI generated. #noai

I'm working thru a 3d game in #godot right now. I was thinking about how to connect the environment to the player so that he player can easily signal the color of the sky with minimallayers. In a moment that felt fully illegal, i just nested the environment node under the player. Problem solved.

#dev if anyone is wondering if they should learn HTML (with a side of understanding CSS) the answer is yes. Though it's not been a required skill in any of my IT positions, i use it every year. Just enough understanding to easily look up gaps in your knowledge will go so far.

Figured I'd use @kenney.nl 's prototype assests so that my project can go nice and quick, then what do i do? Can't leave well enough alone so I'm messing with them in blender trying to learn that instead of my project. The learning is going great though, getting really good at setting up materials.
