Who's better, Half Man Half Biscuit or Menahan Street Band? I don't go in to Spotify much these days, but they do seem to know me quite well...

Noticed today that it's 40 years since Lyon October des Arts, when comic images were put on the side of bin lorries and this book was produced to commemorate it. I picked up my copy in Forbidden Planet a couple of years later at a much marked down price #SergeClerc #YvesChaland #EverMeulin etc.

Take a break from being depressed that everything you love is being destroyed by slop for a moment and let me tell you about the beautiful symbiotic relationship between graffiti writers, train yard workers, and model train enthusiasts.

I happened across a picture of the original pedestrianisation signs for Rose Street in 1979 and boy were those pictogram pedestrians stylish back in the day 🕺
black and white street photo of Rose Street at corner of Kenilworth Bar, 1979. Shows a pedestrianised street with some modern planting and a large upright sign saying "Pedestrian Precinct" with the pictogram image of a man, woman and child, with distinctly 1970s clothing, shoes, haircuts and poses. Spider Man Rides The Tube Not every superhero swings through the city, some catch the tube instead. It took a few attempts to nail the timing, but I finally made the SpiderMan poster look like Spidey is hitching a ride on a passing train. Captured at Oxford Circus station.

I hardly ever buy new comics these day, but I did enjoy the new Concrete, just a shame it has a typo on the very first page and another a few pages later. I know Dark Horse isn't the company it used to be and this might be the result of editorial cuts, just jarring to see in a much loved book
The cover of the first issue of the new Concrete series, Stars Over SandA typo on the very first page, a misspelling of Monument ValleyAnd then two different spellings of Dolbear in the same panel

Imagine if Thatcher had resigned in 1981 after losing 1000 council seats in that year's local elections. Maybe we could afford clean water in our rivers and sea. Maybe we would have council houses etc. etc. Not sure what calamity Keir Starmer resigning saves us from...

The world is not divided between East and West. You are American, I am Iranian, we don't know each other, but we talk together and we understand each other perfectly. The difference between you and your government is much bigger than the difference between you and me. And the difference between me and my government is much bigger than the difference between me and you.
And our governments are very much the same...”

The saddest and most extraordinary story in the paper is this court report of a man dangling a five year old boy over a motorway bridge because, he claimed, the boy had asked him for money to watch his car. The sheriff accepted the story and he was fined £10. All this late at night in a pub car park
