In the Service of Gods & Admirals

A novel by James Keller

"We have been observing your Earth"

These were the words that came from the stars when humanity stood on the brink. Years of devasting global war had sent the planet Earth into a death spiral. With the major governments on the verge of total collapse, the Jada Empire came to offer Humanity a second. To evacuate as many humans from their dying world as they can and uplift them into galactic society. Giving humanity a second chance at life.

Terra-Renatus

The new home for humanity. Terra-Renatus is a quiet moon resting within the borders of the Jada Empire. Granted to the refugees of Earth by Empress Celestia to start rebuilding themselves. Slowly acclimating into the greater Galactic Society they have been welcomed into.

Elise Clarke

One of the first arrivals of the refugee world of Terra-Renatus and member of the colonial militia. Elise Clarke looks to build a new stable life for herself and her adopted sister. Which is made all the more difficult by the trauma she endured on her war torn homeworld 8 years earlier. Her new life is turned upside down when Molzren pirates attack the Colony in a attempt to abduct the Empress' cousin. The kidnapping is thwarted by Clarke's heroic actions which leads to her being enlisted into the Royal Navy by Captain Lan Rigoc. The first human to be given the honor. Setting her on a new adventure.

FROM THE SEA FRET A conspiratorial town, with an ever-present fog on the horizon. Callum Point gets swept up in the mysteries of Perne, while its inhabitants try to pry back the secrets of his past. Open for beta readers #WIPPIT #FBW #H #A #LGTB

Outlined text over a dark blue ocean. The horizon is obscured by fog.
The text reads: From the Sea Fret. A queer horror novel

A moodboard consisting of 5 pictures, each outlined in navy blue. The 5th picture is in the centre.
A foggy wooden dockyard at night.
The inside of a tackle shop. Nets, buoys, and fishing paraphernalia hand from the wall and ceiling.
A pile of grey fish.
A hand reaching out of grey water, the sky above is overcast.
A fishing boat on the ocean. Seagulls swarm it in the air.

Outlined text over a dark blue ocean. The horizon is obscured by fog.
The text reads: From the Sea Fret. Callum Point is a queer transman with a complicated past. He’s haunted by all that happened to him, and he’s eager to leave it all behind.
He moves to Perne to live life on his terms. He’s hoping that the small fishing town will give him the respite he craves.
What he finds instead is a town rife with secrecy. The people are strange, and unwelcoming. However, the thing that keeps Callum up at night is the ocean.
In Perne, it’s always foggy. Worse, there’s always a thick band of mist obscuring the horizon.
One day, Callum makes a discovery that catapults him down a path he can’t come back from. But maybe that’s just the thing that will help him escape his past.

Outlined text over a dark blue ocean. The horizon is obscured by fog. Arrows point to words scattered across the image.
The text reads: From the Sea Fret. Revenge. Queer Transmac MC. Cosmic horror. Paranoia. Thalassophobia. Creepy small town.

A mood board of eight tiles and a centre square with lockpicking tools and ancient writing:
1. Always have an escape plan.
2. A swindler never lets herself feel like a fraud.
3. Don't look for the easy grab, look for the easy mark.
4. Never get involved with golems.

The pictures depict, clockwise from upper right:
A) A city of canals and towering footbridges. There are minarets and steeples and red-tiled roofs.
B) A market selling elaborate lanterns, all aglow.
C) A porcelain and gold hand, reaching upwards.
D) Two figures leaping across rooftops against the coming dawn.
E) A pocketwatch--or is it? Constellations and continents cover the front, the body of the watch engraved with runes. It's sitting on ancient parchment.
F) A wax stamp with removable chits that function as coins in a card game.
G) The lords of the city overlooking grand canals and issuing edicts. They are dressed in fine red robes and silks.
H) Assorted bones and shells used for divination and more.
