The northern lights REALLY tried to peek through the clouds in Dublin earlier. Unfortunately conditions changed almost immediately after it became dark. The solar storm is fizzling out earlier than those of us who stood out in the cold for ages had hoped.

There has been a huge amount of solar activity recently, but tonight passes the 'tell people that the northern lights might be visible in Ireland' threshold. Here's a guide I wrote last year on how you can learn when and how to spot it jrnl.ie/6492980

Why it's easier than ever to see the northern lights (and how to make sure you don't miss them)
Once rare, it now seems like the aurora borealis frequently appears in our sky. The reality is not quite that.

This isn't just work stopping. This is cell lines dying. In vivo tissue going bad. Fly lines dropping. Research materials going bad. A lot of that stuff you can't just pick back up. Once it's gone it's gone, or will take years to reconstitute.

There appears to have been an upper limit on the number of cherry tomatoes you can have on a bridge, and that limit was exceeded.

Way back in 2017, the head of Dublin City Council found out that their parking-enforcement contractor, DSPS, was running an incentive scheme letting crews knock off early if they clamped or towed enough cars. This must end, he said. But it didn't. dublininquirer.com/2024/11/13/a...

Although council once pushed to “terminate” it, scheme letting clampers knock off early if they met quotas remained - Dublin Inquirer
Does the scheme tempt clamping crews to flock to spots where they can find easy pickings, and ignore other areas?
