Iconic was created by @perfumer-pia.bsky.social as a personal tribute to 1980s nostalgia, invoking the scent of cold creams, cosmetics, and vanity tables.🧴 🪶 💄 🪞 I’m impressed by the entire Olfiction collection! Well done, Pia and Nick @nickrgilbert.bsky.social 👏🏻 More soon! 👀 #perfumesky

Just watched every Eurovision entry and this is NOT a vintage year. Distinct lack of camp, too many sincere ballads - why bother? Latvia could win it, but Malta should.

Sometimes all it takes for people to wake up to the vastness of the wealth gap is an irrelevant b-list pop star taking an $11million 10 minute taxi ride to the edge of the atmosphere for a publicity stunt while everyday folks struggle to afford their rent and groceries.

Had to turn off shipping to the US because everything gets returned to the UK since the *cough* “change in administration” 🙃 so not only do we then have to refund the sale, but we make a loss on the shipping *and* pay for warehouse restock fees. So sorry, American friends.

Eau de Boujee - Quir (2023) If someone asked me about my week in Helsinki, I think I’d hand them this perfume. Naughty and flirtatious, the kind of perfume that makes you stick your chest out and feel your oats. A solid leather accord with spicy complements. Tom of Finland, eat your heart out!

How people think fragrance evaluators feed back to their perfumers: “The trend this client is keen on means you should increase the vanilla blah blah blah…” How evaluators ACTUALLY feed back: “Now it smells like cake in B&Q, I think this mod brings the woodiness up too much. Smells like MDF, innit”

Eau de Boujee - Infleurno (2024) Bouquets upon bouquets of divine immortal flowers immersed in the flames of Hades. This perfume dignifies its namesake and the inspiration. Similar to the other EdB perfumes, the scent creates a full scene, where now I see Orpheus suppliant before Persephone.

Eau de Boujee - Queen (2023) The balance between earthiness and sweetness in this perfume can only be described as “masterful”. The jammy fruits are wrist-bitingly delicious, whilst the carrot seed, geranium, and black tea are expansive in scope. This isn’t just a cuppa, it’s the whole damn party.

Eau de Boujee - Verdant (2023) Music picks up where language fails, which explains why “Such Great Heights” came back to me the moment I sprayed this transcendant ‘green’ fragrance. Not just ‘another green’ - it’s the hanging gardens of Babylon meets a yet unknown metropolis; I don’t want to leave.

Just between us chickens, I’d like to send out a plea to the guardians of our memories; iconic classic perfumes from big name brands, that once the juice is a zombie perfume, please kill it. Once the jasmine is just a memory and the bans and attempts at modernisations zombify the original, let it go

There’s a lot of talk in the fragrance fandom (my way of describing “fragcomm”, coz it is more of a fandom than a community) about “perfume concentrations” and… a lot of it misses at least 50% of the point.
A screenshot of an Instagram caption by Perfumer Pia reads: Inspired by some recent posts on here about “filler ingredients” in cosmetics made me think of that perpetual myth in the perfume world that perfumes should be judged based on how concentrated they are. I wanted to show you a different way of looking at it. When I teach someone to always evaluate perfume oil concentrate in its intended base, it’s because the base product is like a canvas - without which you cannot see the true picture. You must create with intent, and an Eau de Cologne will not smell good if you add it to the solvent mix at the same concentration as Eau de Parfum. You would get a distorted, over-saturated image. Now - whether someone has actually given the perfumer a proper budget for the oil in the first place, well that’s another issue entirely. You can definitely still create beautiful perfumes from inexpensive materials, and skilled perfumers can make something glorious out of something simple, but there is a breaking point of course and then you’re left with no money for the sophisticated ingredients that can make all the difference.

Who invented this idea that you can actually breakdown molecules by rubbing your wrists together? Here's an email I just got from a PR company quoting an 'expert' #perfumesky #fragrancesky
Myth: Rubbing your wrists together after applying perfume helps spread the scent

Many people rub their wrists together after spritzing perfume to “evenly” distribute the fragrance, but Maria warns that this can actually weaken the scent.

“Rubbing perfume into the skin breaks down the fragrance molecules, causing it to lose strength and fade faster. The friction also mixes the perfume with your skin’s natural oils, which can distort the scent.”

“Instead, it’s best to spray from about 30 cm away and let the fragrance settle on your skin naturally.”

When folks find out what I do for a living it’s nearly always met with them telling me about a dupe brand they’ve found. It used to be that they’d tell me a memory or their favourite fragrances. This is obviously super cool and not at all insulting to the people creating fragrances. 🙄
