Sobering stuff from the Women's Wealth Report. The #GenderPayGap starts in childhood, which is clearly not 'merit'. Ditto the lower rate of women asking for pay rises; stop asking women to ask for more, and fix the #GenderBias that punishes them for doing so. www.finder.com.au/insights/sta...
Key statistics

Australian women hold 40% less net wealth than men on average

35% of women aged 65+ have less than $1,000 in savings, compared to 22% of men

The gender pay gap begins in childhood, girls are paid pocket money of $7.50 per week on average, compared to $10.30 for boys.

Men are more likely to ask for a pay rise (24% of men asked, compared to only 14% of women).

When they do get a pay rise, women receive less: on average $2,424, compared to $4,000 for men.

This is a fascinating piece, Sam! I love your outlining of empathy. Empathy is a foundation for authentic kindness, I like your work around self reflection. We found individual capacity strongly supported by reflective practice, which is of course grounded in empathic processes. Thanks for sharing!

It has implications, right?! Kindness having an action based output, and a cognitive component (eg we don’t need to share emotions of suffering or misery to still show kindness and do the right thing), means this is something we can a) teach/learn how to do kindness better, and b) expect from others

Nicki Macklin @nickimacklin.bsky.social · 14/12/2024
We are working hard to try to separate authentic kindness from this weaponised notion, agreed. And also trying to prevent conflating kindness with niceness which is a whole different thing but also problematic.
