I wonder when the wider college football world realizes that the Lupoi administration has broken JKS. Might happen tonight

It says something about my relative expectations of both Stanford and Miami that in many ways Stanford has actually played *better* in this game than I expected

Five quarters in and I already have to issue a mea culpa, Davis Warren has been VASTLY better than anticipated, dammit

The Stanford commercial where they brag about “coding ethical AI” really pisses me off since the leaders of various deeply UNethical AI companies are all furdies

Man TCU’s offense really sucks after losing their QB to Indiana. Why didn’t they just recruit a 5star QB replacement?

Finally found the time to listen to this typically excellent episode of the @doublepivotpodcast.bsky.social and: 1. The parallels with college football are just so disturbingly stark 2. What is wrong with me that college football and international soccer are my favorite sports?

Pulling a guy with 14 Ks though 6 on just 84 pitches in a blowout is probably the right call for long term health but it’s just so antithetical to what is ostensibly supposed to be about entertaining your viewers.

Generally the best case scenario is an airhead with 7 brain cells all entirely devoted to soccer, like Messi

On one hand, I am sympathetic to anti-VAR arguments because it halts game momentum and refs are clearly swallowing their whistles because they think VAR will catch their errors. On the other hand, it fixes bad decisions like that one. 🤷‍♂️

I don’t think soccer is improved by allowing players to just shove over the opponent

Every goal that isn't caused by a massive defensive error is a tiny, precious miracle that should be treasured for all time, and few goals illustrate that idea better than this goal, from this camera angle

The tactics guys are probably going to have a lot to say but man when you just lose every duel, every take on, every pass is loose, it’s not some kind of complicated question of tactics, it just means you didn’t show up. 45 minutes left to show up

The defining feature of this World Cup has been (presumable the world’s best?) refs waiving away super obvious penalties that always get called in league football

The whole tournament, we’ve seen on field refs not call penalties, perhaps because they think VAR will identify any they miss, but VAR is terrified to actually intervene, and I GUESS this is ok if it’s consistent all the way through but I bet it won’t stay this way

Austria atoning for Gijón 44 years later by trying hard when they don't need to, and Algeria being the team to suffer in both instances . . . that's just messed up.
