#NWSL news: Katie Lampson (nee Stengel) has retired, effective immediately. She's a two-time NWSL champion (both with Gotham) and she scored the game-winning, extra-time goal for Gotham in last year's quarterfinal to beat No. 1 seed KC on the path to a second title in three years.

Katie Lampson's Instagram post reads: "Soccer has been my guiding light for the last 30 years. It presented opportunities to see the world, meet life long friends, and grow as a person. Soccer helped me earn an education, become comfortable being uncomfortable in new environments, and challenge myself every day.

My career took many unpredictable turns, reminding me to accept my lack of control. Consequently, I am most proud that I was able learned to find an internal motivation and confidence amongst the chaos. I created consistency through a commitment to being my best regardless of the circumstances.

Sepp Blatter is on the other site talking about how hosts must allow unrestricted entry for World Cups, a line a lot of people used when Trump was barring entry. But that's wrong. It's not even reasonable, as Canada barring Partey is showing us. thinkoutsidetheball.substack.com/p/world-cup-...

Infantino is getting dogwalked by Trump when he hides behind national sovereignty and the need to let each country manage their own borders after putting free entry into their host contracts, but he’s not actually wrong. FIFA may be hosting a tournament in the U.S., Canada and Mexico, but an international soccer organization can’t dictate who those countries let in. Just like it wasn’t reasonable for them to do so in Qatar, Russia, Brazil, South Africa and Germany in prior tournaments.

Countries can expedite and ease visas for World Cups, but they cannot throw out any discernment whatsoever. They have to be entrusted to make grounded, understandable and fair decisions about who they allow to enter.

That’s why Canada denying Partey is plenty fair.

And it’s also why the United States’ actions are so gross.

Canada is applying a consistent, justifiable standard.

The United States is just being racist.
