Use the search feature to find other entities. The first set of graphics shows activity in the past 24 hours divided into 10-minute segments. The second set shows the past week divided into 1-hour segments. Development is ongoing and currently is optimized only for desktop displays. #hamradio

The HF propagation map has a new feature that shows the past week of amateur radio activity for each dxcc entity. At a glance one can see what bands and modes are being used. As an example, see the charts for Kenya: hf.dxview.org/activity/430 #hamradio
A set of colorful charts showing recent amateur radio activity from Kenya. The display is divided between activity during the past day and another for the past week.

I recoded this again. A very small script is loaded in the head. The script at the end of the body loads all the scripts in the right order using promises and then does the initialization after all the scripts are loaded. What do think of this solution?

Thanks for the tip. Basically jQuery code was replaced with straight Javascript. Maybe this winter there will be time to replace all of the jQuery.

If either of these things appear to be working, then the Javascript is being responsive. If so, I would try leaving it zoomed in to an active area for a while and see if the refreshing goes back to normal interval.
100
Jon Harder @ng0e.bsky.social · 08/08/2026
The other thing to try is going to the menu (after waiting a minute or more) and selecting refresh. This will show the number of footprints updated, added, and deleted. The numbers start blank (-) and after a brief pause are filled in with the refresh data.

Jon Harder @ng0e.bsky.social · 08/08/2026
There are a couple of things you can check to see if other kinds of refreshing are working. If you zoom the map into an area that should be active, do new footprints come up?

Your browser picked up an empty Javascript file originally and was hanging on to it. Once the full file was restored and a version number updated, then your browser was able to pick up the correction.

Jon Harder @ng0e.bsky.social · 08/08/2026
Try reloading your browser. That should correct the problem. Let me know if that works or not.

The server was down 45 minutes (or less), but a javascript error was causing some display issues. Refreshing should pick up the correction. vhf.dxview.org hf.dx.view.org #HamRadio

I wiped out the whole cache of tiles and restarted the tile server. It seems back to normal and blazing fast again. I wonder how long it has been working in this sub-optimal way (aside from not working at all as you noted; that was on the order of minutes).

How about now? There is not something right about the map tile server and I'm just managing to make it worse.

I’ll have to dig into this problem more. Unfortunately my internet connection has failed and I’m the middle of a 10 day wait for a service call (a reality of rural living). So I’m unable to do much now. I’ll look at it when I can. The best thing you can do now is to keep reporting it.

There must have been a corrupt packet that should have been ignored. I've removed your station from the display and will check back in on it later in the day (it will correct itself). Thanks for the heads up.

The workers probably don't know the specifics of what is making this possible either. Jobs are always tough to come by in this area. The young worker digging in my lawn was very happy switch from construction to a $17/hr job. They work 12 hours a day and then get 4 winter months off (frozen ground).

Broadband (fiber optic) is being rolled out in my very rural MN community right now. They have been working on it most of the Spring. My house has been wired to an external junction box (no inside equipment yet). In general, I don't believe community members have any idea why this is happening.

A 24 hr prediction chart is shown. You will see the MUF frequencies for the day, which is typically a good choice, but select the next lower band to see what that looks like too. The time scale is 0000-2400 UTC. The prediction depends on the sunspot numbers, so check for a new prediction every day.
000
Jon Harder @ng0e.bsky.social · 07/03/2026
Once the map is drawn, select "MUF" at the top of the screen. Is your location covered by one of the band colors? That band has propagation to Bouvet now your area now! Next, click on your location on the map and select "show prediction" at the top of the map. Make sure "MUF" is still selected.

The Clarity has a smallish tank and I can't get even $20 into it at these prices. Since it is a plugin, I can get well over 150 mpg on one tank of gas.

It's not quite to $3 here in rural Minnesota. I thought yesterday would be a good day to fill all the vehicles as it wouldn't be less any time soon. I paid $2.779. The last time at the same station it was 2.619. The main vehicle is a plugin Honda Clarity and which may go many weeks until next fill.

SW Minnesota is in the midst of another snow storm the NWS failed to predict. A lot of misses this year, and it can be dangerous. Has something changed at NWS? They used to give us a heads up days ahead.

That trips me up too sometimes. The underlying map relies on OpenLayers interface and the OpenSteetMap. They are both open source and free to use. OpenLayers would support other maps if one can be found that is stable and well supported. I haven't found one.

Another iteration of the path feature was uploaded today: • The "r" key clears all labels; tapping "r" any time has the same effect. • No new labels appear as long as the "r" key is held down. • Shorter hops are not displayed, to reduce clutter. • The search for connected paths has been expanded.
100
Jon Harder @ng0e.bsky.social · 18/10/2025
Another followup to this — if you hold down the "r" (for recursive) key and select a footprint, it will expand to all the connected paths. To reduce clutter station callsigns are omitted. You may need to refresh your browser to pick up the change.

The Es filtering needs more work. Right now it is triggered when there are at least three intersecting paths of 1750+ km from 6 distinct stations. Once that is met, any path of 500+ km in the vicinity is accepted. Something in there needs to be tightened up.
