I like to play a game where you try to guess a movie based on the Letterboxd reviews of it and did not appreciate seeing this review of 300 that made it sound like it was from the distant past.

[TITLE] is so perfectly up its own ass in a way that no movie nowadays would dare to be, there's not an iota of irony in any of this, no knowing glances, no patronizing gestures to endear itself to a sneering contemporary western audience, none of that sh*t. just a bunch of oiled jacked-up dudes posing against a harshly desaturated digital mythology. it's kind of ridiculous, kind of genius.

The old adage about teams looking for the exact opposite of their previous manager still holds true.

This quote he gave to FanGraphs last summer has stuck out to me for a while as evidence he's just guessing fastball every time and hoping to be right enough times for it to work. I've been meaning to write about it for a while but haven't had the time to get the data I want.

“I’m trying to be more on time with the fastball, catching the ball out in front of the plate rather than letting it get in on me,” House said. “That way I have some room to work with. One reason Altuve might get an outsized benefit is that catchers seem more reluctant to challenge pitches at the top of the zone, which would make sense because those would involve the glove getting more in front of their face.
