I gave Chloe her anti-anxiety drugs at 10 am for a 2 pm vet appointment, but she was still too wound up at the vet’s to let them trim her nails. Now I’m trying to walk her at 6:30 pm and her bones are made of jelly.

The first Saturday without out heat advisories or storms in what seems like forever, so I used it to finally tackle the now two invasive Chinese tallows rapidly growing in the empty lot behind the house. Not on my watch! 🪚💀
A hand is see holding branches of a Chinese tallow tree. The Chinese tallow tree is highly invasive in Louisiana and will outcompete native species. It also grows rapidly and is extremely weak, so it’s the worst line of defense against hurricanes. A tallow tree has been growing in this empty lot behind the house for as long as I’ve been here, and I try to cut it down at least once a year. Now there are two tallow trees, because that’s how quick they spread. And so I chopped up both of them. This is only a temporary solution, but it’s the best one I’ve got.

I took a break of watching lions on the livestream to watch Turning Point: 9/11 Generation and I also ran out of sertraline yesterday, so now that my anxiety is up to 110%, I’m going back to watching lions acting like giant house cats.

I’m obsessed with branded clothes I find in the bins at the New Orleans East Goodwill outlet, and brought Mr. Blanchard’s jacket to work today because my office is absolutely freezing. I realize now that someone might think I’m here to fix the broken elevators.

I got a new electric mini chainsaw because the one I had died in the middle of pruning & the garbage people were definitely not picking up the large branches. The new one is so much better than my old one, I cut up my stuff and then cut up a branch the neighbors had sitting by their trash.

My favorite new decor item is movie prop warning signs because they’re fun and also easy to hang. Just two Command strips and you have art on the walls. I got these from that prop warehouse in Gretna. No idea what movie or show they’re from.
The image shows a vintage Soviet industrial safety sign featuring a red lightning bolt symbol and Russian Cyrillic text. It reads “Stop! Dangerous to Life.”A warning sign usually found in waterways that says, “Caution Manatee Area,” and shows an icon of a manatee.

It’s on my list of things to push this out to a rebid for a better user experience. Just using my own anecdotal experience, personally and from friends, the lack of a coherent app is losing the city money when frustrated drivers just give up and hope a meter maid doesn’t catch them.

Parking.com was giving the contract (or swapped out) by the Cantrell administration without any public outreach. Signage is confusing, there is no “app” and its coin flip as to whether your payment will go through on their website.

ParkMobile still operates a variety of parking lots throughout the city so the App still “functions” but, as far as I know, parking.com is supposed to the processor. I’ll escalate this to parking enforcement to get you and answer but it’s entirely possible that you’re setting money on 🔥

Not sure how long this has been going on, but ParkMobile no longer runs the street parking app for City of New Orleans, even though the city’s website says it does. You need the Parking.com app to pay by phone for street parking. I don’t think the street signs have been updated either.

Dr. Steven Kahn, director of the UW Diabetes Research Center, had flown to New Orleans this week planning to present at a few sessions during the annual American Diabetes Association conference. On Friday morning, he and two other researchers were distributing copies of the editorial — which slams the federal cuts to scientific research funding — at the convention center when they were approached by security guards and police officers, Kahn said.

The officers tried to take the researchers’ copies and lanyards away, and escorted them out of the convention center, he said. The researchers later made their way back inside and continued to hand the papers out.

“After awhile, one of the police officers and one of the private security guards came to find us,” Kahn said in an interview. “Then the police officer told me if we put our feet inside the convention center again, we’d be arrested.”

A spokesperson for Louisiana State Police confirmed event organizers had requested their help in removing several people from the event. State troopers did not make any arrests, and all individuals left peacefully, the
