iiinova — where your digital self keeps evolving

According to Garnet they got so sick of singing it that they would change the lyrics to “we’d cruise the streets for American boys” and “be it broad and flat or loose and sprays/to make it takes the Antelope two whole days”.

Tonight is session 100 of my Traveller campaign.

I mean I’ve done this my entire career, but in practice a lot of the time companies already have a specific thing in mind and react poorly to being told there’s a simpler fix that will solve the problem (or even a different one).

Stupider though because it relies on the AI recreating a simulation of you based on your digital records and punishing that. So it’s something that thinks it’s you being punished for what you did.

Without saying your age, what is your favourite movie that came out when you were 20 years old?

Right. It gives it a visual identity that would be consistent across issues. Left looks like a 1970s textbook.

I’m not going to get into AI boosterism here but when it’s right it’s right.

Use it to create cyberpunk future maps for RPG sessions? I dunno why they needed to add that feature but that’s all I got.

Honestly the whole Odyssey argument feels like my insisting that the Scouring of the Shire is essential to the Lord of the Rings (it is and if you don’t see that you’re just wrong). Adaptations are doing different things in different media and can work even when having a very different take.

Yeah, I shifted to in-person exams this semester and students are crashing and burning. Not all, but compared to the assignments I am required to give them the dive in quality tells me that I’m mostly marking AI in anything that’s take-home.

I just don’t want “film a video and hope it goes viral” to be a “reasonable” expectation of authors!! I hate being on video! I am too awkward for video!

I and the players had fun with it, but it was only a one-shot. It does seem to capture a lot of what is fun about 5e (the tactical elements of play and monster dynamics) with a lot less mental overhead.

At least here in Canada a lot of Costco locations also have a gas station, with lower prices, and the membership is usable there too.

Yes. Healthcare costs overall should be lower in this system though. Canada’s spend on healthcare per capita is the same as US government spending—so the increase should be less than all current costs.

I’ve been grading and the papers are hitting 100% AI at this point. I’ve talked to my Dean and I am going to move to 75% of the grade being in-person exams in future. It’s the only way to be sure that the student is actually thinking.

The only scenario where I can see it mattering is if the optics of the situation swing some votes—people not wanting to impeach but willing to vote for removal given a different rationale. But generally yes, it takes less effort to impeach.

Other than Trump saying so, is there any evidence that Venezuela is under US control right now? Everybody on here seems to be taking his word for it but nothing in today’s events suggests that is the case.

000

Kevin Brennan @newba.com · 03/01/2026

I’ve seen nothing to suggest that they have any control over what happens next other than Trump’s say-so. There aren’t US troops on the ground in Venezuela! They did a special ops raid and kidnapped the President. Trump saying he’s in charge doesn’t mean anything.

It would be cheaper. US government spending on healthcare is on par with other countries’ total spend. You wouldn’t even need to raise taxes that much!

A life expectancy vs. Health care expenditure chart showing that the US spends far more on healthcare than every other country while getting mediocre results.

A spicy thought: There are a multitude of reasons that running a country like a company is a lousy idea but one of the most paramount is that in the post Jack Welch era, most of the people who run companies are absolutely terrible at running companies.
