They must be re-marginalized. Once upon a time, Birchers were punchlines. Over time, that changed. It can and must change back.

. I've got MAJOR quibbles with never-Trump Republicans, too, but the world is once again at war -- and not metaphorically, either. That FDR could snuggle up with Uncle Joe was about as creepy as it gets -- and Winston was, among other things a monstrous imperialist. Allies are allies -- not spouses.

LOVE the gif, Bill! Cubs fan since '66, and from all these years, the Northsiders' bullpen boogie of a few years back might've been my all-time favorite baseball thing. Just about as much fun as it gets IMO.

I was was pleased with Hoyer's off-season bullpen acquistions. They looked good to me then, and I'm not going to succumb now to the confirmation bias Maddon used to caution us about. Hoyer's acquisitions spectacularly didn't work out. But who of us in February foresaw anything *like* what happened?

Heartily agree that pitching situation is hangover from Theo years. And while I'm generally pretty pro-Jed, it's regrettable that it took him until this most recent draft to take such a very aggressively different tack. Also very much agree injuries to Steele, Horton, BP arms can't be overstated.

Their systemic, abject failure to draft (EVERY year, NO exceptions) LOTS of young, quality, controllable pitching is by far the worst of that rot. If there's any non-laughable "good news," it's that this year's draft appeared to be a first step in the direction of changing that.

Those typical bear market rallies are functions of the market acknowledging some vestigial value, however limited, in the declining side of the market. In this case, that vestigial value is so *extremely* limited as to negate either most or all expected pause in collapse.

Obviously most of us Cubs fans would *love* having all three of those games played in Wrigley. HUGE advantage Cubs! The flip side of the coin, though, is equally obvious. That *ginormous* Cubs advantage comes 100 percent at the expense of the Pads and Phils. That shouldn’t factor in at all? Really?

Especially Palencia. Wouldn’t it be something if by the end of next week the bullpen was actually a strength? As in … more of the same from Civale, Zeferjahn with a little better command, Cabrera fully functional? None of that’s too far fetched. Wouldn’t bet a nickel on it — but it *could* happen.

I might appreciate Counsell more for what he doesn’t do than for what he does. Is he a genius tactician? I dunno *nearly* enough about baseball to answer that. But to my uneducated eye, he seems to make fewer blatantly unforced errors than any other Cubs manager I’ve watched going back to Durocher.
