Wait. Just found out that the CEO of Gumroad now works at DOGE? And that he saved up loads of money 'cause he fired everyone and replaced them with AI? I'm leaving the platform as soon as I get my money. Jesus christ. tedium.co/2025/04/06/g...

Gumroad’s Interestingly Timed “Open-Source” Play
The creator-economy service Gumroad decided to open-source its platform at a suspiciously convenient time. (And even “open source” might be stretching it.)

But the most frustrating part was, this was right after Trump had signed the EO to end birthright. And they discussed how it would "never pass through the court"; never discussing why it wouldn't; still very much pro republican, pro Trump. 😅

I attended a small wedding of Indian immigrants in US back in Feb (before the market crashed) and 90% of them were pro Trump because he'll give Indian imms greencard and get "illegal immigrants" out of the country.

it's been said before but the dividing political line for me is between people who hate these fucking fascists and people who don't. whether you're a normie dem or a hard leftist, if hating these fucking people isn't core to your politics, you're useless. if it is--then yeah, we can work together.

I wish there were an option to bypass the reduced motion setting. I usually don’t like animations (which is why I have them turned them off in settings), but they’re fun to see on a site like this 😅

I also do not have the grace to give to adults, who believed lies or, decided to sit it out - I should technically, but I don't. As an bi POC woman immigrant in tech, this has been a horrible time for me, and I just don't have the capacity anymore. This isn't true for religious affiliations.

Keep in mind, I am coming from a perspective of someone who came from a "third-world country" to US 8 years ago, assuming some things are inherently considered and valued as "rights" in US. Being friends with people who don't value those as much (or are against them), is beyond my capability.

I think it would all be a different story, and I would be very much aligned with you if we had the political climate of say, 2008 (yes, I was a kid then and not in US, but I can read history books). The current vote decisions (if not political affiliation), are associated with my deep core values.

Yeah, if they didn't hold position that X is less important than other things (even if they aligned on the topic, but not on the order for extremely important topics), then I already know the one major thing I need to know to be friends with someone.

Nerdy Momo Cat @nerdymomocat.bsky.social · 12/02/2025
I think we started with the base of "I won't be friends w/ someone of religion X" is same as "I won't be friends w/ someone who voted for the current president", and I was explaining why that isn't true. I have no interest in trying to change minds of adults, especially on topics like these 🤷‍♀️

I can agree with all of this from the perspective of a political candidate or campaign manager. But, I find it difficult to apply these concepts when it comes to making friends. I don't understand what necessitates this understanding if I want to be friends with someone?

One of the main aspects of voting that makes it different to any other forms of social acceptance -- is the ability to vote in private. You can white lie to be accepted to a community while still voting in accordance to your beliefs (unlike religious ceremonies for example).

मनमोहक (दिलकश might be better) and साझा aren't as commonly used. You might want to say: "मैं अपनी सभी तरकीबें यहाँ बाँट रहा हूँ!" But also, people usually learn terminologies in Latin script, so they might prefer CSS, JavaScript, SVG, और Canvas, especially for SVG and CSS since they are acronyms.

Do you mean Typst over LaTeX? I guess, Typst is easier, imo much more readable (because it is a version of markdown), and doesn't end up needing multiple compilations for bibtext to work. Overleaf is pretty nice (it is what I use day in and day out), but it feels jankier (and less natural) to me.

I think you'd really like typst (assuming you like markdown that is)! Corca has a functionality of copy text and paste as LaTeX (in case you ever need to use LaTeX again)

@samwho.dev Oh yeah, I totally agree. It is definitely a part of my upbringing where you wrote "formal/official" content differently than general purpose content, which is possibly why I have landed on that distinction.

Functionally native & early bilingual but not native language speaker -- I sometimes use utilize when I procedurally "use" something and the procedure matters. For example - "We utilized the ICD-10 coding manual to fix classification errors" vs "We predominantly used recent blog posts to fix errors"

Oh, what I meant was, the more apps I try for local transcription for different features, the more models I end up downloading (for example, macwhisper isn't accessible through apple shortcuts but aiko is). So, I am trying to kinda find an app that does it all 😅
100
Nerdy Momo Cat @nerdymomocat.bsky.social · 03/02/2025
The biggest thing I find myself missing in macwhisper is the ability to access it through a cli (shortcuts app works with hellotranscribe and aiko, but is pretty slow), and I do not want to download 5 whisper models, one for each app. 😅

Nerdy Momo Cat @nerdymomocat.bsky.social · 03/02/2025
Gotcha! I have wondered about trying superwhisper for their lifetime version (sometimes the local transcription speed bothers me slightly). I do really like macwhisper though, so if you ever try it out - I'd love to know the pros and cons.

This is going to be an image response rather than me trying to put it all into a series of tweets in a thread. It also includes repetitions and mostly blabbering rather than a well formed response.
So here's the deal. I think every single person knows that they have a lot in common, maybe even 95% in common with people across political ideologies. There are differences between religion and voting for someone. Political ideology to me is actually also pretty different than who you voted for. So I wouldn't be saying the same thing about talking to a conservative or someone who identifies as a conservative versus center, versus left of center, or as a liberal, or any of those ideologies for that matter.
I do care about not ever being friends with someone who voted Republican this time around. And the difference compared to religion is pretty apparent. Following a religion has two implications. One, it doesn't necessarily mean that they are imposing their beliefs on you, whereas voting for someone who you know and has proven would be against things that are non-negotiables for me, I know it would impose those beliefs on me. It's very different from someone following a religion and practicing those beliefs for themselves (and you don’t know if they even possess those beliefs). Second, if someone has voted Republican Party this time around, given the current person who is the president, I know that they consider policy X to be more important than something that is non-negotiable for me (even if they agree with my viewpoint on the non-negotiable factor) given that the other option in my viewpoint didn't have any policies that were ranked higher in the non-negotiable terms.
For example, for me, women's reproductive rights is a non-negotiable given everything else on the agenda. There's nothing that Democrats say, that for me would be ranked as a higher non-negotiable higher currently than reproductive rights. So it would be a different case, for example, if Republicans were against reproductive rights and Democrats were, say, in favor of random human trafficking. That's a case of actual two evils. I don't think currently the party system is actually two evils for me. Everyone has ranked beliefs, all categorized as happy to have to non-negotiables; I know I have many beliefs in common with conservatives. I know that many conservative people are not anti-abortion but they consider other policies to be more important than that being implemented. So anyone who votes for a president has implemented orders that have led to the dismantling of those rights, I would never be able to be friends with them.

I think it is actually a little condescending to believe that other people don't realize how much they have in common. I think everyone realizes that they have at least 70% in common. I think everyone has a list of ranked non-negotiables, and it is fine if you consider someone who uses their voting power to impose their belief that is against your non-negotiable on you to never be friends with that person.

I think most people consciously make that decision. They are influenced by other people (I agree with will stancil theory) but we are talking about being friends with someone. I wouldn't want to be friends with someone who is influenced to do that.

Nerdy Momo Cat @nerdymomocat.bsky.social · 26/01/2025
That is a dealbreaker for me. Sure, I will talk to them. But they will never be my friends. Their positions can align to something and they can still be people who I am okay with. I do not care much about the possible excuse of threat of social ostracization for positions I consider immoral.

Nerdy Momo Cat @nerdymomocat.bsky.social · 26/01/2025
It means that consider X more important than Y enough to vote for it in that moment, and that is enough for me to not want to interact with them. For example the current wave of right wing people consider X (whatever it be) more important than women's reproductive rights (w roe v wade).

I did read your twitter replies on the same post btw, and I do not agree that ideology is inherent. I think this is one of those takes that sounds deep but isn't reflective of current political climate.
110
Nerdy Momo Cat @nerdymomocat.bsky.social · 25/01/2025
I agree this makes no sense. Being right wing definitely tells me about at least one of their positions (they consider X to be more important than Y, Y being a dealbreaker for me). Being of a particular religion doesn't give me that information with 100% certainty.

I guess, I yoyo'ed from not knowing any reasoning to knowing every reasoning, and now I am balancing the idea of, sure it is not healthy and maybe slightly toxic, but it being light to my life and balances towards positive rn, l will reevaluate it 2 years down the line again if I feel the same way.

True. But I guess, for now, I have decided that I am a bit better off with that compromise than trying to achieve the perfect state. It is similar to the thought process where I go to therapy and I am clear about "I do not want to take on less work, I want to keep work as my identity and life".

Nerdy Momo Cat @nerdymomocat.bsky.social · 23/01/2025
A hard part for me has been unlearning it too much, and then learning it again. Some years of therapy later, I wasn't realizing I actually wanted to manage other people's emotions sometimes because that made me much much happier in life 😅
