Went to the Museum of Civilisations of the Mediterranean (MUCEM) , which is great, if less extensive than I’d hoped). Key points - 1. Stunning building and location 2. Great aircon (crucial for over 30 degrees, ugh) 3. Admirable approach (we are all people of the Med vs we are French, Algerian etc).

Not one I’ve listened to before but really enjoyed this pair of episodes of this podcast - not just because George Fouracres is wonderful (he is) but because of the deep thoughtful conversation - around mental health, family, fame, social class. Quite like Adam Buxton’s at its best, I’d say.
Walking The Dog podcast with Emily Dean, episode with George Fouracres (Part Two)

Ooh, might just check the news - ah.
An array of depressing or infuriating news stories on the BBC News website. Ann Widdecombe killed in ‘targeted attack’, counter terror police say. UK wasted 10 billion pounds on PPE that left NHS staff poorly protected, COVID inquiry finds. Scott Mills was highest-paid BBC star before sacking. Wildfires burn in parts of UK

May I once again commend this occasional six-part radio series to everyone? One of the finest things on BBC Radio (which is obviously saying something). A journalist goes to a different randomly-generated postcode area each episode and finds a local story by speaking to someone. Always fascinating.
Screenshot of the BBC radio app BBC Sounds, playing an episode of the programme called The Patch. The episode is entitled North Oxford. The cover photo of the programme is the UK in green material stitched onto a denim ‘sea’ background as a patch.

Exactly this. We need to get over ourselves about what class and job roles today really mean - Labour especially does!
In somewhat different ways, they desperately want a movement of big, burly steelworkers and rugged coalminers. But there are more manicurists than miners in the UK by a 2:1 margin. Their image of the working class is an aesthetic, often an entirely imagined one, unconnected from the reality of life for most working people.

The actual centre-left coalition is bartenders, supermarket shelve stackers, and waitresses. People who live in a big city in a small rental with roommates. Nurses, teachers, office staff. Young aspirational couples in the suburbs. Students and recent grads. Progressive professionals and, yes, academics.

Ok yeah that’ll own the non-libs and give a constructive response to the impression of people who already don’t like you. Which you don’t have to do I suppose but is this that classy, really? (To be clear I am in general a woke Greenbelty type! But this I just find tiresome)
Greenbelt Festival are releasing t-shirts with the phrase (coined by one of their haters or critics, apparently) “utter woke nonsense” on the front. ‘You spoke and we listened’ apparently.

*Kenneth Williams face*
A couple of products for cleaning floors with the brand name Bona. One of them starts Bona Hard… I feel the late British comedian Kenneth Williams would have enjoyed this - he used the Polari gay slang word bona (meaning good) a lot in his sketches in radio programme Around the Horne.
