Some may recall the great run we had with my 'lit rag' Shadows and Tall Trees. A Shirley Jackson win, several stories reprinted in "Best Of's. Our new lit rag, Pale Grey Idol, harkens back to that aesthetic. 100 pages at 5" x 8". A little gem of dark wonders.
Covers to Issue Zero of Pale Grey Idol, and issues 1 thru 5 of Shadows & Tall Trees.

Woke up with an earworm of a guitar solo this morning. You know the really mad one at the end of It Bites's Cold, Tired And Hungry, and that threw me into a memory loop of the time I really got into Frankie Dunnery's solo stuff ... and thus one of the most peerlessly honest love songs ever written.

There were quite a few - it was the 70s after all. I suspected it was going to the Spirit Of Dark And Lonely Water or one of the other PIFs, but looking at the dates, it was probably... ... this guy.
A scary Victorian man in red satin lined opera cape and top hat. He has a white face and very very red lips.

It’s a Community thing
The stretch between September and October is one of my favourite times of year because that's when the autumn conventions happen. That's when the tribe gathers in a hotel bar somewhere and spends days talking about the fantastical arts that we love. I love that community. The writers, editors, publishers and agents. The artists and film-makers. The academics and reviewers. The booksellers, the convention organisers and of course the fans too (which is all of us).

I've not come across Sontag's Notes before now but camp is something I've grown up with just by dint of being British. It's at the heart of pantomime for a start, and existed in light entertainment since before I was born. Feel this is a pub/con bar discussion in waiting.

I honestly think they're different registers of camp. Not sure if can explain it more eruditely than that right now. (The mot just incoming in around about three hours from now).
