Since its foundation in 1824 the bravery of Royal National Lifeboat Institution volunteers has saved more than 146,700 lives at sea. Hundreds of those volunteers have died attempting to save others. They are the best of us.

Iceland is not in the EU, but it is a member of the Schengen area. It’s also a member of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) and is part of the Single Market, meaning it enjoys freedom of movement with the EU. Good to know that doesn’t impact their independence. Maybe we should try it, Nige.

Congratulations to Iceland on voting to keep their independence.

Kitchen chemical sun print made while on holiday staying with arty friends as my contribution to the guest book. Feather and leaves gathered from the garden, DIY contact frame, plus buckets of photons to make the exposure. #photography
Making a sun print on holiday using kitchen chemicals. A sheet of cartridge paper has been coated with a bright yellow light sensitive solution and is being exposed to bright sunlight. A feather found in the garden is held in place by a plastic bag, weighted by my glasses case and a random bicycle pump I managed to accidentally packed...Resulting sun print showing a shadow image of a feather and sprig of leaves from the garden we were staying in. The objects are recorded as deep yellow shadows against a lighter background where the strong summer sunlight has faded the light sensitive coating.

For Farage's information, many of us have a great deal to be thankful to the NHS for. IT DOES WORK. It would work even better if entitled, wealthy cheats like he, Tice etc would pay their fair share of taxes.

Excellent evening spent at the Albert Hall entertained by Belle & Sebastian, seen here halfway through a track by track rendition of their first album "Tigermilk". Support set from The Loft that took me back a bit too. A very welcome belated birthday treat and ray of joy.
Slightly blurry colour photograph of rhe band Belle and Sebastian performing at the Albert Hall. Front man, Stuart Murdoch, is sporting a pair of white troos - a brave choice that I would not dare to wear given how easily they seem to attract egg yolk stains etc.

New report available from our Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) survey at Somerleyton Hall in June 2025: historicengland.org.uk/research/res... The data suggests the presence of heated flower beds, known as "hot beds", extending immediately beyond the main glass houses.
cover of the Historic England Research Report number 61/2025 from Somerleyton Classhouses, Somerleyton, Suffolk. The cover photograph shows the GPR hand pushed cart collecting data inside the Glass House Cafe - yes you read that right inside an actual cafe with coffee and cake!Megan pushing the GPR hand cart with one of the ridge and furrow glass houses visible in the background. The "hot beds" are located under the grass immediately in front of the glass house.Composite image showing an extract of the GPR data visualised as a time slice (left) showing the hot beds as a series of parallel linear high-amplitude anomalies at a depth of approximately 1.12m. The red line indicates the location of the GPR profile shown to the right where both iron heating pipes [gpr2] and vaulted brick work [gpr3] are visible in the data.Photograph of the interior of the partially excavated glass house with an iron heating pipe heading out of the image to the left underneath the "hot beds" revealed by the GPR survey. The intricate pattern of vaulted brick work has also been revealed with vents left open to allow heat to rise through the soil.
