It's hard to overstate the sheer dullness of Paul Robinson.

The number of times I've read in the Grauniad, Spurs fans slagging off Richarlison. Now he's your hero.

BBC radio commentary on the Arse Everton game is shamelessy (or shamefully) partisan for the gooners.

Alan Whittle (whose contributions brought the title safely home in 69/70) for Everton, scoring against Forest (I think). Bought this to help rekindle memories of these times for a friend now afflicted by dementia.

Bradshaw rightly highlights Duvall's criminally under-appreciated The Apostle, in this warm appreciation of his work. www.theguardian.com/film/2026/fe...

Robert Duvall was a vigorous and subtle actor who always performed with passion and conviction
From his steely self-effacing consigliere in The Godfather to his surf-crazed Wagner enthusiast in Apocalypse Now, just to see him on screen made me smile

My Trade Secrets today. Mark Carney’s speech: nice truth bomb even if not totally original. But the middle powers finding a new way to run the world requires a massive shift in political will which Carney’s Canada itself has had trouble making.

Richard Gould (son of Bobby no less), McCullum & Key should be tendering their resignations with humility to the ECB, rather than think that they're the people to investigate themselves so that everyone can have another crack. Lessons learned etc etc.

Charitably, Harborne expects nothing in return for his £9m, according to Farage who has shamelessly plugged this guy's crypto. Right. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

Very sad news of Robin Smith being called back to the pavilion, one of the three centurions in the Lord's test 1990 against India. Gooch rightly took the plaudits but Lamb & Smith plundered the bowling. Fortunate to occupy a ringside seat by the Tavern on the second day.

Middle of redecs, so the Len Deighton collection has had to come off the shelves. Not complete (Airshipwreck & Fighter, Ipcress on another shelf, tut). The sheer weight of his output. Pick one: despite the extraordinary achievement of the Samson roman a fleuve, The Ipcress File. Bloody minded.

Often wondered what this might once have been. Turns out it's a spigot mortar emplacement (not a popular weapon apparently). A bloke called Colin in the Pillbox Study Group has penned some interesting lines (I thought so anyway) on the topic. www.pillbox-study-group.org.uk/spigot-mortar/

We recorded this pod about 20 hours ago to help folks understand the consequences of tariffs. And so of course there have been big changes since. But it likely will become relevant again next week, when the administration re-imposes tariffs using a new (maybe legit, maybe not) legal authority.

Reunited after 55 years. My baptism at a mist blanketed Goodison & the Gwladys to see the Toffees dispatch Ipswich 3-0. (My uncle offered to get the original signed by the team & needless to say, never seen again.) Saw the following match at The Dell where Mick Channon danced on mud to score twice.
Everton v Ipswich Town 10 January 1970. Kendall in the first half and two from Joe Royle.

@rthonwesstreeting.bsky.social Pritchard isn't up to the job of running the NHS if she can't be straight with the SC. Shades of Vennells & the Post Office, where it seems that yet another insider is promoted to the level of their incompetence. Maybe get someone else who can be less dissembling.

THE MOST important legal analysis I have read on the Trump presidency. It offers a unifying theory of the administration's unprecedented claims to extreme executive power. The claimed power to override Congress at a policy whim. By two brilliant scholars. Trevor Morrison and @adambcox.bsky.social
