That’s what my mum, who managed an NHS walk in centre for years, always had to say to American tourists too. They’d be getting their cards out to pay. “We cannot do anything with this” 😂

God damn, she’s thick (as a person who’s lived in a country that’s got this, btw, they’re on wheels. Basic Google shit anyway!)

'Rock 'n' roll swagger': 10 iconic images capturing the chaotic energy of '90s Brit culture
It was the last hurrah of analogue, 20th-Century life in the UK, as the era's chaotic, thrilling energy spilled into music, fashion, art and hedonism.

Exactly yeah. And I did read they were writing episodes on the fly by the end. Ridiculous.

I remember this too. The frustration they have at not being able to articulate what’s going on. It is upsetting and I empathise.

It’s an art we’re losing in a world in which these lads are saving their lines for goals that get clipped up for Instagram.

The perception of the Greens outside their own little universe is that it’s sixth-form thinking dressed up as politics. I’d desperately like them to stop repeatedly providing evidence for the meme.

You must forgive me for the humble brag here, but it’s a big deal for us. Our daughter barely spoke until she was 6. Now she’s ahead of everybody in the year. For anyone searching for delayed speech now, or in years to come: yes, eventually, everyone speaks.

Both kids have recieved awards this week for academic excellence. It is a cliche, but they are my greatest work. Better humans than I. Now then, what’s the opposite of shame? I’ve got it in here somewhere…ah yes. Pride! ❤️

Definitely. Just seemed mean. I remember in sixth form, ‘95ish, a teacher said she’d been concerned in the ‘80s for what may become of “Thatcher’s children”, but was pleased to see it was a reaction to the unkindness.

When I was a kid, what I remember without having the words for it all was thinking “these people are not very nice and I don’t know why”. Some of it may have been absorbed through my Dad giving Maggie dog’s abuse when she was on the telly. 40 years later, same same.

BMW. They’ve got some grief for it when everyone got a Spider-Man movie ad on startup a few months ago. Bleak stuff. I’ve been in a few Teslas. No display at all in front of the steering wheel, it’s all on the central screen, which I cannot get along with!

I understand. I tend not to drive now as I don’t need to, but whenever I get in my wife’s car the button thing t start is so strange. Whatever the fuck the screen is for serves up ads too. I just turn it off 🫠

I mainly mention it as I had an immediate “I don’t like you” reaction to him. Wasn’t nice. Good brain, 10/10.

This guy who has been named as the person who assaulted Andy Carroll. I was, aged 25, asked if I’d do a regular weekend radio show with him. His stock and fame was quite high at the time, but I didn’t fancy it and I think he thought it was beneath him anyway. It never happened in the end. Mm.

People are being weird about Pickford/Trafford. JT is clearly gonna replace JP in the long term, but he’s a young man so needs the minutes. Pickford, who is a sensational keeper, will still be number one in the next tournament - with a more experienced understudy. What’s the problem?

Yeah, I left many years ago and have no connection now which makes me sad - it’s the sort of place that never leaves you. The new club has a PTSD I think, scared to be more ambitious, but it is solvent and well run. It’s a League two side town, at least.

Neil Grayson @neilgrayson.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
you’re thinking of the Gibb family I think - they owned Bradford, not Scarborough. It was a series of bad owners that did it for Boro, rather than one, and I suspect some quite unsavoury stuff too. Nobody ever got to the bottom of it!

Neil Grayson @neilgrayson.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
Warnock obviously comes with preconceptions now, but he’s my first memory of football at Scarborough in ‘86. Did ridiculous things. He’s quietly shoved money towards the new club, I was told. Same as Craig Short, the local player who went on to Everton etc and is now a coach.

Whenever I read about any of this cheating from City, Chelsea etc I can’t help but think about my hometown club, the original Scarborough FC, who went under for £2.5m. 128 year old club. Any one of the big boys could’ve helped without blinking.

Haha. Bev has spent a year showboating that she’s in Washington. She’ll be raging. Mind you, who wouldn’t dislike being replaced by a man who looks like a pixelated CD-ROM Encyclopaedia assistant from 1995?

Never forgave them for killing off Woodheads in Scarborough! They had way better sausage rolls and pasties, used to see them on every little shopping street along the coast.

Entire worlds in themselves, proper communities. I bought them from the ‘80s (Zzap!) right up to PS magazine when it folded a few years ago. Via Super Play, PC Format, etc etc! I miss them all.

Some mean comments about Americans in this thread, so I want to say: my kids and this school are/is not American, British, Canadian or any of the other countries Bluesky thinks it’s acceptable to be unkind about. They are in fact of the nationality Bluesky wants to save the very most. Sit down.

More of an outsider meme I think. I’m from Scarborough and never heard it beyond gentle ribbing. People tend to mix between the two as well, as there’s crossover for different services. I love that coastal road connecting them. Proper England!

It sounds like Scarborough and Whitby is being made a composite coastal town for one or more episodes.

Neil Grayson @neilgrayson.bsky.social · 28/09/2026
My fellow Scarborough and Whitby enthusiasts: some of the Netflix Tales Of The Unexpected has been filmed there over the last week. Dominic West spotted at the Harbour Bar (a very cool ‘50s diner) and crowd scenes were being made by the lifeboat house. It’s out in Jan/Feb apparently.
