Focusing on the high cost of affordable housing risks overlooking a more important reality: the biggest challenge is not affordable housing itself, it is the layers of state and municipal regulation that get in the way of building the homes all Rhode Islanders need. buff.ly/3KEt38W

Housing work is deeply local, but we’re not in it alone. At the WNNORI gathering, we had the chance to listen to people from across the country, from different backgrounds and perspectives, who are all working toward the same fundamental goal. A safe, stable home for our all of our neighbors.

At the top, a row of colorful icons represents various modes of transportation: a person pushing a stroller, roller skating, riding a scooter, walking, biking, using a cane, and a public transit bus.

Large text on a yellow paint-stroke background reads: "CELEBRATE WINS FOR SAFE STREETS & BETTER TRANSIT." Below it, text on a teal paint-stroke reads: "Summer Fundraiser - July 21st, 6:00pm." A yellow arrow points down from the text toward the venue.

The background is an evening photo of a marina filled with boats, featuring a brick building with a prominent, glowing red neon sign that reads "HOT CLUB."

In the bottom left corner is a circular teal logo that reads: "PROVIDENCE STREETS COALITION."

This legislation would help open the door for faith communities to create much-needed affordable homes across Rhode Island by allowing residential development on underused religious property. A small zoning change with the potential for a big community impact.
