Trump announces that two countries who have been in a major war have agreed to a ceasefire. Ukraine said they had no idea what he was talking about. Russia said they agreed to nothing. Trump has taken a blowtorch to any credibility the US has built over two centuries.

More than 500 U.S. citizens have been detained by ICE, according to ProPublica. 70% of ICE detainees have no criminal conviction. Trump’s promise to go after the “worst of the worst” was always a lie. It was always a pretext to terrorize Black and brown communities. Remember this.

The powerful forces trying to dominate our country want us to fall into cynicism. That way, they win everything — and they'll be able to take it all without the rest of us putting up a fight. If you are worried about the future, you are not alone. I am too. But please do not fall into cynicism.

If Trump just takes money appropriated by Congress for a specific purpose & seizes it to use it for an entirely different purpose, what is the point of having a Congress or appropriating money for anything? I’m sure the Senate Appropriations Chair Susan Collins must be concerned.

The concentration of wealth in the hands of a few isn't just bad for our economy. It's corrosive to our democracy. When the wealthy and well-connected control our political system, regular people don't have a voice. The result? The demagoguery and corruption we're seeing now.

Michelle Ringler @neid69.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
Exactly. Democracy can’t really thrive when economic power buys disproportionate political power. When ordinary people feel shut out, frustration creates the perfect environment for demagogues to step in and exploit it.

On the same day Trump announces that top tech firms have signed an accord to "self-police" their own AI development, we learned that OpenAI employees and security researchers were reportedly ignored when they brought safety concerns to the company's top executives. See the problem here?

OpenAI Ignored Employees’ Warnings About Safely Testing A.I. Models
Employees and security researchers said that they had cautioned the company on safely testing its A.I. models and strengthening its corporate infrastructure, but that OpenAI did not listen.

Michelle Ringler @neid69.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
Yeah the obvious tension is that “self-policing” only works if companies are actually willing to listen to the people raising safety concerns from inside. Otherwise, you’re basically asking the fox to write its own rules for guarding the henhouse.

Five corporations control 90% of the US media. Airlines have merged from 12 major carriers in 1980 to 4 today. A handful of companies control the pharmaceutical industry. Four giants control 80% of meat processing. The evidence of corporate concentration is everywhere.

Yeah, there’s definitely a broader trend toward consolidation. The interesting question is where that concentration actually creates problems for consumers and where the numbers need more context.

By moving to the “center,” Democrats have failed to fight the forces that led us to Donald Trump: widening inequality, economic insecurity, and the unchecked political power of corporations and the rich. Political centrism is nonsense. There is no middle ground between democracy and oligarchy.
