50 years ago, an NEH grant was awarded to sociologist, curator, and lecturer Barbara Norfleet Cohn of @harvard.edu. Cohn assembled and archived more than 20,000 negatives and prints from around the country detailing everyday life in the United States.

Founded in 1747, the Shaker community found its footing in New Hampshire in 1792. Though there are no surviving members, the legacy lives on at Canterbury Shaker Village.
