The Personalized Nutrition Initiative has moved its home to NCSA thanks to a new two-year memorandum of understanding between the two groups designed to expand interdisciplinary research, strengthen industry partnerships and position the initiative to become a self-sustaining campus center.

When Grace Tan's biology application stopped working after a system upgrade, she worried she'd have to start over. But Illinois Computes had her back, building a custom way to keep using the same software her research depended on, without changing platforms, updating software, or rewriting any code.

This month, NCSA celebrated its 40th anniversary! In 1985, Illinois astrophysicist Larry Smarr and 7 colleagues submitted an unsolicited proposal to the National Science Foundation asking for funding to launch supercomputing centers. NCSA “opened for business” in early 1986.
