VERY important paper! This study detected SARS-CoV-2 in the air of common areas of 4 big US airports. SARS-CoV-2 detected in 98% of samples through the year. Influenza A was found during flu season. That’s why you want to wear an N95 respirator in an airport! And all indoor public spaces all year!

I was looking at the population of Iroquois County, Illinois, a rural county I often drive through between Champaign and Chicago. It peaked at 38000 in 1900, and has gradually been decreasing since, to about 26000 today. For comparison, Champaign County has grown from 48000 to 210000 over that time.

Scoop: For nearly a year, NSF has struggled to make new grants. Now we know that it will not catch up. In fact, NSF will award just 6,100 new grants—a 30% y/o/y decline, itself down from a previous avg. of 11,000+. In fact, the last time NSF awarded so few grants was in the early '80s.
