Seeds of annual & perennial populations of #Mimulus guttatus exhibit differential responses to cold stratification New #AJB research by Alec Chiono, Elisabeth Sellinger & @ncemery.bsky.social doi.org/10.1002/ajb2... #botany #plantscience #monkeyflower
A figure showing the proportion of viable seeds that germinated after two cold stratification treatments (not stratified or stratified) for annual and perennial populations of Mimulus guttatus. Raw data are shown as points; dashed lines connect maternal-family-level raw estimates, while solid lines show estimates from 200 random posterior draws. Seeds from annual populations were more likely to germinate after cold stratification while seeds from perennial populations were less likely to germinate.

It's great to see the support for LTER, but the program has not been shuttered - it is typical for the program to be archived by NSF between solicitations.

@mprnews.org covered critical MSP LTER research being conducted by Co-Director Emilie Snell-Rood and postdoc Lindsey Kemmerling that explores the negative impact lead pollution has on the health of pollinators like butterflies #heavymetals #pollution #pollinators z.umn.edu/MPR-lead-butterflies

U of M study finds lead contamination threatens butterflies
University of Minnesota researchers say they’ve found a correlation between lead levels and smaller wing sizes, which could keep the pollinators from thriving.
