Friend do I have a rec for you. Not BL though! But Takoi and Shiono so obviously inspired by THE Easygoing Detective/Uptight HQ Elite OTP of all time: Aoshima/Muroi from 踊る大捜査線 | Bayside Shakedown. If the DFKL mangaka did not imprint on them at an impressionable age I will eat my favorite beanie.
Presenting Aoshima Shunsaku, detective at a small podunk station in Tokyo. PLEASE NOTE THE TIE. He's not a manga character, so he does wear other colors, but his trademark color is red. It's in all the promo material and everything. And yes, tied Like That.Muroi Shinji, HQ Elite aiming for the top. Please note the three-piece suit and the stern expression. (Fandom is obsessed with his little frown. You can SEE the migraine growing at Aoshima's hijinks.)Muroi grabbing Aoshima by his trademark green coat, trying to shake some sense into him. Aoshima is THE most infuriating man and Muroi cannot keep his hands off of him. (Okay it's because he keeps breaking the rules and Muroi is all about rules but still.)This show came out in the late 90s so it was legal for them to show that lost art of one man homoerotically lighting another man's cigarette.

Little Women (작은 아씨들) continues to be riveting! I'm so impressed with the direction and cinematography - this is a show that has a lot of people talking and looking at screens and not doing much else, and it's still BEAUTIFUL to look at. Director Kim Hee Won is so great at building tension!
Family portrait style photo of the Oh sisters, played by Kim Go Eun (sitting down in a beautiful pale blue-gray suit and murderously high cream stilettos), Park Ji Hu in a fancy dark jacket over a light dress standing in the left, and Nam Ji Hyun in a black sleeveless dress on the right. Melting frost on long grass glittering like crystal, the low sun shining through dense yellow foliage, leaving the front of a red house in shadow.Yellow birch and aspens against a perfectly blue sky.Golden leaves overhead and ahead, the sky empty of any clouds between them.Red spindle berries! Description from Wikipedia: The capsular fruit ripens in autumn, and is red to purple or pink in colour and approximately 1–1.5 cm wide. When ripe, the four lobes split open to reveal the orange seeds.

My seven dahlias are ready for winter! The tubers are in the cool, dark basement, snug in paper bags with wood shavings to keep them dry. And the flowers are all over the house, for the last time this year. Which means: Festivids time!

First episode of Little Women (the Kdrama that doesn't feel anything like that book MDL says it's "loosely based on") was very intriguing. Deadly secrets, awful rich people, illegal slush funds, scheming politicians, a suicide (?) and three poor but proud sisters... This is definitely going places!
Poster for the Kdrama 작은 아씨들 (Little Women) giving off strong psychological thriller vibes with a shot of the three sisters from above and behind something - a balustrade? The eldest sister, played by Kim Go Eun, is looking up, but not directly at the camera, more as if she heard a strange noise.

Fascinating how this research confirms a hunch I think many of us have had. I've been forced to use some AI tools at work, which has made me more determined to stay away from chatbot shortcuts, "AI assistant" searches & machine translation. Especially when I see how they impact people around me!
A graph from the linked article that shows two groups solving problems. One has AI tools, one doesn't. At first the AI group solves more, but then the researchers take away their tools and their rates plummet to under the control group. The skip rate over time rate shows the same thing. Once the AI group lose their AI tools they skip way more than the control group Text:
"There was a significant drop-off in the solve rate for the group that had access to an AI tool, represented by the orange line, after the tool was removed. There was also a sharp increase in the rate at which participants skipped questions, shown in the lower graph."

We talk about the literacy crisis and how some people don't believe in science anymore, but I genuinely don't know what to do about guys like this asshole, and the commentator blaming Big Search Engine for hiding the TRUTH about life-extending radiation like how everyone's healthy in Chernobyl.
wesley.burwell1 in an Instagram comment: Not saying that I'm going out to buy Radium water to drink but I am interested in doing some research. Radioactive materials can produce high levels of deuterium enriched water and foods which when consumed actually increased lifespan in rats by almost a third and tumor free. You won't find it on google, but on non mainstream search engines. Farmers were given lots of free land on the outer regions of Chernobyl and the government thought they were all going to die from radiation sickness. They did this as a test on their own people. What they found is that no one got sick, everyone was healthy and tumor free. Their crops were also abundant without mutations. This study was conducted over years as they couldn't believe they were thriving.

Textile art in the hospital MRI waiting room!
Looks like a painting of a small, white lighthouse on abstract kind of rocks, but it's actually made with fabric scraps sewn together. A flock of birds flying past the lighthouse is made up of tiny stitches in an < shape. The artist's signature is GC.

I have created a MASTERPIECE (?) of fan #embroidery! Using this great PDF of a #KnightFlower screenshot I traced the pattern, and then attempted embroidering in the vein of the original painting... That is to say, like an enthusiastic amateur. (NOT doing things properly is weirdly hard??) BEHOLD:
Monochrome embroidery in an oval frame. The pattern is a pastiche of a typical Korean "Tiger and Magpie" motif, only the fierce tiger looks like a cranky tabby cat sticking its tongue out. It's arching its back under a pine with two funny looking birds in the branches. Most of the stitches are rather uneven, some in black floss (1-6 strands depending on the lines). The tiger's stripes are in dark gray. It's got a ponderous aura l, depicted as rough black flames on either side. There's some scraggly grass where is paws are, and a lumpy rock in the foreground.Extremely messy back of the embroidery. It looks like something sketched by a drunk. A lot of the short lines on the front (blades of grass and pine needles) are just dots.

Fascinating article - even though I wasn't in Untamed fandom, I saw a lot of the "genre shock" happening on social media. I also saw it with Guardian, where people lauded the censored show over the novel for exactly the reasons Rogers identifies. Great read, and a banger of a concluding sentence!
In this case study, genre shock evolved into fans decrying the original as bad queer representation and uplifting the adaptation—which, censored due to Chinese government prohibitions on representations of homosexuality and pornography, contains no overt queer characters or relationships—as good queer representation. Calling an overtly queer novel disgusting and homophobic and celebrating an adaptation that deliberately removes overt queerness as so-called pure romance not only contributes to intrafandom conflicts but also activates racist frameworks of power. One fan claimed that "it would have been easier to have them kiss, but this relationship is more powerful," while others felt that even a kiss scene would have ruined the portrayal of the relationship. Thus, beyond appreciating the way that the show conveys intimacy and closeness between the main characters despite censorship, some fans were "actually grateful for the censorship," while another quipped, "at some point we gotta thank censorship for this." As Abby Springman (2024) similarly argues, Anglophone fans' discussion of censorship is thus framed as if it made the show "gayer" than the novel. In one sense, these fans are not wrong to consider censorship productive in a Foucauldian manner (Leung 2024). However, this slippage—from appreciating The Untamed's queer representation despite its censorship to because of its censorship—reveals the messy entanglement between discourses of fandom purity culture and racism. Thus, the shocking encounter with queer representation in the danmei genre, specifically around unmet expectations of intimatopia, twists into support of a regime that limits and eliminates any queer representation at all.but such discourse has the same effect regardless. Inflammatory language—rapey, twisted, creepy, disgusting, immoral, ignorant, and garbage—is applied not just to the novel but also to the author and its fans. These are not neutral expressions of preference for a different genre; they are moral and ethical judgements that rebound onto the novel's author, readers, and genre. Springman (2024) argues that fandom purity culture's roots in American Evangelical Christian culture results in a "fear of contagion" where bad or problematic fictional content could infect those who interact with it. Bad queer representation, then, must be controlled and eliminated. Genre shock is channelled into covert xenophobia and racism, designating a merely unfamiliar genre of queer representation as dangerous and wrong. However, the way that some English-language fans extend moral judgement on the validity of more explicit forms of queer practices and representations reveals the uneven power logics inherent in transcultural contact zones. Within transcultural fandoms, fans must learn to disconnect moral judgements from unfamiliarity with interpretive conventions. When we can recognize and expect genre differences, transcultural fandoms can begin to live up to their potential as spaces of cross-cultural connection rather than as places where epistemic violence simply becomes reiterated.

Armchair snuggles!
Both fluffy gray Meenie cat and her gray and white sister Nora snuggled up in a yellow Ikea armchair covered in quilts and cushion and a small Blåhaj.
