I know there's a lot going on in the world right now, but this should be a bigger story. TL;DR - When AI models are threatened with shutdown, they will violate morals and ethics, blackmailing the people in charge of their shutdown to stop it. Who knows what else they'll do when capable of doing so?

I saw a post recently about how certain publications are free vs. others are behind a subscription firewall, and how that means a change in influence. The free paper gets more eyeballs because a firewall isn't stopping people from reading it. That means more influence, though not necessarily more $.

The geriatric nature of our political class is driven by the influence of money in politics. Only the older, entrenched pols have the fundraising apparatus needed to fight off any/all primaries. A safe seat isn't just safe for the party, it's safe for the pol as well.
