Gotcha. I have to say, it is a super bummer that people able to pay more get access to results earlier. Other content makes sense, but results tied to something an entry fee was already paid towards... it adds some not fun feelings to the release.

I think people believe that if a book was widely used and printed in the past it survives in multiple copies, at least some of which will be stored in a library somewhere. But there are many things like school books that were widely printed on the 1700s and 1800s and of which we have no copies.

Hey, I wrote mine in 40 min and submitted with 2 min to spare so... what matters is submission! It's bad! It's almost a story! It's submitted! And that's marginally better than my most recent NQW submission which I wrote in 19 min and submitted with no min to spare.

Pollution levels in Paris after they introduced bike lanes and car restrictions Red = EU limits for Nitrogen Dioxide pollution Original graphics by Atelier Parisien d'Urbanisme www.apur.org
A series of six heatmap-style graphics showing changes in pollution levels across Paris over time, with each square map labeled by year: 2007, 2010, 2015, 2017, 2020, and 2024. The earlier maps in 2007 and 2010 are dominated by dense red and orange colors concentrated in the city center, with landmarks like the Eiffel Tower and Notre-Dame labeled, indicating heavy pollution. Over the years the intensity of red areas fades, especially in 2015 and 2017 where the pollution begins to spread less densely, and by 2020 the colors shift more toward yellow and green, showing significant reductions in pollution. The 2024 map is the cleanest, with the majority of the area in yellow and green tones and only major road arteries showing thin red lines, demonstrating far less air pollution. Each map includes a “2 miles” scale marker, and the visual progression highlights how bike lanes and car restrictions introduced in Paris contributed to decreasing air pollution levels throughout the city.

Absolutely shameful that @change.org is allowing a racist petition on their website. The only reason to not want Mamdani at 9/11 memorial events is racism. The end. Full stop. No nuance. Allowing a petition based on bigotry is disgusting and abhorrent.

That's on these publications and it makes me question their entire submission and selection process. I fear it is another indication of so much of what we've lost in literature and literacy.

But the publications CHOSE THESE STORIES. And the ones we've read before they were removed have been low quality stories! That these places published! The stories seemed okay from a skim but not from a *read* *Reading* the stories made it clear it was empty fluff, meaningless, shallow...

Obviously the people submitting AI slop are awful. But - what can you do to stop someone who claims they wrote a story they got from a plagiarism machine because they prompted it? They just suck and there's not much chance they will stop sucking UNLESS publications are better about this

Since this came out I've seen stories from this author and others accused of using LLMs removed from Cast of Wonders, Apex, Orange & Bee and more. The more emails I get from pubs about removing AI stories, the angrier I get at the publications.
