Yes, but also organizing community defense. I think the Deacons for Defense had a good model that emphasized discipline and deterrence, but that was a different time. Ida B. Wells did a study and found that the Black communities that experienced the least amount of white violence were the communities that had guns. Yes, there were laws that made it difficult for Black folks to own guns but that wasn't absolute, and people had them anyway.
