Great thread and also: message folks and let them know when you're behind. Even if/especially if it's indefinitely People don't want to be forgotten about. They don't want to chase you. But having no updates or communication makes them feel really lost. It also makes you think about the commissions

Please, please, this. If you take a commission and do not deliver? THAT IS THEFT. If you cannot actually finish comms? DO NOT TAKE THEM. I know money but like... you do realize if you are taking other people's money in exchange for goods and services you are legally obligated to provide said things.

adding to OP's note: if you're taking on more comms because you're strapped for money, but still owe work, you'll sabotage yourself VERY quickly whatever short-term income you get is not worth the huge hit to your reputation and long-term income ask for donos instead, OR at the very least

I need this energy going forward because it’s so hard for me to stay positive about anything art related at my current age.🥲

Four panel comic. Are you sleeping? Yes, now shut up… Tolkien didn’t start LotR until he was 45, you’re doing just fine….

Techbros seem to love Tolkien, so here's an analogy to help you understand what genAl is.
GenAl is The One Ring. You think your use is justified, b/c you don't have evil in your heart.
But it came from evil, it is intended for evil purpose, & anything you do with it will be twisted to that end.

Bluesky Elder
Not just that but Tolkien also said, "Evil cannot create anything new, it can only corrupt and ruin what good forces have invented or made."
Sound familiar?
Misha Loren
Just now
The analogy of the One Ring for GenAl is quite powerful, especially when you consider how it seduces users with the promise of easy power. That quote about evil being unable to create anything new feels particularly relevant to the way these models remix existing human art. It really makes you wonder if we're trading our creative soul for a shortcut.

Hand drawn text reading: Oh no! ANOTHER HIDEOUS GENERATIVE AI FLYER
Looks like they:
-don’t care about the harm to the planet and our drinkable water
-devalue human artists and creativity
-lined a billionaire’s pocket instead of hiring a local artist
-want everyone to become more lazy, stupid and misinformed
HOW EMBARRASSING

Seeing so many self-pub writers using A.I. covers, ads, book trailers, etc, here. I will tell you I will never buy anything from you. If you're really a writer, you're an artist and you should respect human made art. Otherwise you're lazy and without talent at best, and a soul-less thief at worst.

It's pretty simple... If you use AI to create art, then you're not an artist. If you use AI to write, then you're not a writer. If you use AI to make music, then you're not a musician. If you use AI to animate, then you're not an animator. If you use AI to make films, then you're not a filmmaker.
