Yeah! I mean, they’re not wrong; sure, address more memory, the loops could’ve been cleaner, PCM loops, HRTFs… but it works. The reverb is iconic and lifts a good soundchip into a truly great one. Other than more filters or DSP, what more could you need? And you CAN do that on the EE if you gotta.

So what’s the PS6 again? … yeah. We’ll see, I guess. Sony have many other pies more widely; it’s not an ignominious end for them to withdraw from a market, and it’ll be slow: if I recall correctly somehow the PS3 store is still open for the moment (because of that one guy’s Suse Linux box).

Think about it: what might a PS6 look like; and why would you buy one? What does it do better, and what does it do worse? Xbox become a game store on PC like Steam. Nintendo keep doing their own thing, and stick around. Sony? Who buys an Xperia in 2026?

Atari wasn’t burying cartridges in the 90s. It’s a Jag situation. Devs hate them, their main competitor has a more survivable ecosystem for the hardware drought and stagnation, and they don’t really have anywhere to go next. I genuinely wonder if MS and Sony may both quit the console biz.

But they’re in a *very* different market. Sony have the same problem of differentiation, and alienation of some of their customer base and several studios. It’s almost more of an Atari than a Sega in that regard. What is their next move going to be, and why don’t they have one?

No. Were you around for the DreamCast era? It was genuinely great. But the PS2, Xbox, and arguably the GameCube were better. Sega’s biggest mistake was moving too early in an era of great generational change. Now, Sony are actively moving backwards, and don’t know where to go next.

Commission someone to make a soundtrack (tell them your budget and scope, maybe you can afford it, lots of musicians like indie games) or use something actually royalty-free. You shouldn’t use music in your game you can’t give sync licences to, because of streaming.
