🚀 New MyCrossword Release Crosswords now show how tough they are, from Gentle to Fiendish. Setters can rate their own puzzles, and solvers can add their rating from the puzzle page. This was one of the clear front runners in the recent feature vote, so thanks to everyone who voted!

1) Card badges Crosswords can be marked as "trending", "debut" or with a milestone e.g. "setter's 50th". FYI if you're planning on adding some hidden reference to said milestone, you can opt out of the badge by adding a theme. Let me know if there's any other badges you'd like to see.

I was in New York this weekend for my wife's birthday and we went to the Museum of Broadway. There was a whole Sondheim section with a crossword grid and anagrams of his musicals. I also got to show my wife [Nina] how Al Hirschfeld used to hide his daughter's name...

Reminds me of this
Terry Pratchett - being poor is expensive...

Take boots, for example. He earned thirty-eight dollars a month plus allowances. A really good pair of leather boots cost fifty dollars. But an affordable pair of boots, which were sort of OK for a season or two and then leaked like hell when the cardboard gave out, cost about ten dollars. Those were the kind of boots Vimes always bought, and wore until the soles were so thin that he could tell where he was in Ankh-Morpork on a foggy night by the feel of the cobbles.

But the thing was that good boots lasted for years and years. A man who could afford fifty dollars had a pair of boots that'd still be keeping his feet dry in ten years' time, while the poor man who could only afford cheap boots would have spent a hundred dollars on boots in the same time and would still have wet feet.

This was the Captain Samuel Vimes 'Boots' theory of socioeconomic unfairness.

I’ve finally got around to reworking it. I’ve built a new version of the open-source grid component with a better (well, I hope) approach to checking. Take a look and let me know what you think.

As a small thank you, supporters can access page views and completed solves for their own puzzles. NB: I’ve only been using this analytics platform since last year, so page views only go back that far. I’ve also only just started tracking puzzle completions.

The editorial workflow gives editors a dedicated discussion thread for each clue, along with a status and score. Setters benefit too, with clear, focused feedback on every clue and full visibility of what needs attention, making revisions simpler and the puzzle’s overall progress easy to track.
