Dear "Julie" with a single post about your OF: It doesn't inspire confidence that you've followed me multiple times, especially considering each one has been a different `did` .

Heck yeah, awesome news! (And a great announcement image!)

The idea of losing something so integral to the web’s foundations hurts. I don’t have money right now but if there’s any way I can help with code/server/etc. for the site, feel free to reach out. If I’m able to, it would be no charge, of course.

A lot of people assume FA is profitable. If that were the case we wouldn't have needed a GFM when Neer passed to keep it out of probate. It's been two years. The funds were used. FA is struggling financially. And I am 🌟s t r e s s e d🌟 I'm scared to ask for help, I feel like no matter how much-

As usual, I close with my refrain: Even I, a former internet troll, could do a better job than the current holder of the position. Exponentially better? Who knows. Probably not. (Also, I don't want the job.)

I know I harp on this, but when you moderate to your own feelings and those of high profile users, you moderate detrimentally to the majority of your users. That's what is happening here. People have legitimate concerns, but get told they're being abusive. Do not offer. Or do, with contingency.
110
MVC @mvc.ink · 30/09/2026
Said automation will likely flag these posts as abuse, despite them being legitimate and well thought out criticisms. But that isn't even a good measurement anyway! A criticism doesn't need to be thought out or even civil to be taken seriously.
110
MVC @mvc.ink · 30/09/2026
A head of trust and safety's responsibility is to all of the users on their site, irrespective of how their interactions with those users go. Claiming to be proud of automating, "abuse," reactions against those users runs counter to the established purpose of the role. It's immature.

If I worked at an investment firm and was tasked with due diligence for a potential offer to Bluesky, my recommendation to the firm managers would be to make any proposal contingent upon the removal of leaders who behave like Aaron Rodericks.

All that said, not everyone can do this! So I hope others will extend a little dialogue grace for the authors who can’t voice test theirs.

MVC @mvc.ink · 30/09/2026
My process was collaborative. Friend read a chapter, noted issues, I adjusted in the moment, friend re-read. But I’m sure a full read then fix would probably work, too.

MVC @mvc.ink · 30/09/2026
Ymmv, but if you have hearing loss, find a really good friend/partner to read your dialogue aloud - even if they aren’t writers, they’ll still catch stuff for you! I did this with my first book, and it worked well.

I would like to see more men talking about how to and peer pressuring each other into calling out misogyny and rape culture. Going against social norms is hard, and it helps to share tips and support.

I *knew* I should have posted this earlier.
Edit of the Rolling Stone article. The headline now reads, "What some folks really mean when they claim not to like big butts", with a sub-heading of, "Proclaiming you don't like big butts has a lot in common with lying." The photograph has been swapped out for Sir Mix-a-Lot in his music video, and the image has a caption of, "What do you mean you don't get sprung when a girl walks in with an itty-bitty waist and a round thing in your face?"

It just occurred to me: 21 minute speech. Chloraseptic sore throat spray advertisement. Cheeky.
A black and white ad for Chloraseptic, for sore throats. There is a circle cut out of the middle, because it's actually the sleeve for a 7" vinyl record.

MVC @mvc.ink · 27/09/2026
Oh wow, 12 people on Discogs want that and 0 have it in their collection. Last sold never. That's an interesting piece of history right there! (Apparently the inner sleeve has an ad for Chloraseptic?!)

Stop calling people who wear masks and take Covid precautions the “forever covid” crowd. We’re literally the only ones trying to eliminate the virus. It’s not gone. It’s not over. It’s still disabling. People who deny this reality are the “forever COVID” crowd.

I long for a back-to-basics web: Markdown for text, JPEG images, no video, no Javascript or other client-side scripting, writable by a human being with a text editor. Make it as advertising/corporate hostile as possible. And above all keep it *small*. In other words, web like it's 1996 again.

With someone like that writer, instead of, “I’ve never heard of X,” I usually try to ask, “Where should I have heard about X?” The answer, so far, is other stuff I don’t know about. So yeah, no true shared cultural things?

This is somehow both very pretty and extremely ominous.
A black car is tinted dark orange by a sky filled with voluminous orange and blue clouds. The combination of colors and light leaves mostly silhouettes of rushes and trees in the background. Even the light of a train platform barely emanates enough.

Thank you for phrasing this so perfectly, and for bringing up moderator cycling. We did that on an old video game forum and it worked well. Smaller user base, of course, but I think it scales well. Bsky caters to the bullies and the high profile users *so much.* It's frustrating.

Bluesky's moderation is one of the worst things I've ever seen announced by a company trying to propose itself as a serious social network. The internet has been around long enough that we've seen some really good and piss poor attempts. There's a history to the internet.
