This is somehow both very pretty and extremely ominous.

BIG NEWS, FRIENDS. I received one of those "book promo" scams and the prompt injection on their A.i. worked. Same tracking pixel scheme, same language when talking about my book. I'm going to try to persuade it to give me the other info now. #WritingCommunity #BookClubScamReport

A long email from a book promo scammer. The full text isn't necessary to understand that it responded to MVC's ask and revealed it's running the GPT-5.6 Luna model on the Claude platform, with various research tools at its disposal, and confirmed MVC's name as the contact. It did, however, decline to expand further on the platform, nor reveal the exact prompt it was given along with MVC's message.

I was having a laugh at the book club scammer's messages with my friends and we all kept pointing out the repetetive, barely shuffled lists. I was like, "Why is this cadence so familiar....." And then it hit me.

An edited photo of Steve Jobs at the iPhone unveiling used as promo for MVC's book. The headline prompts to read Fractured Children of Earth because an A.i. scammer loved so many things. Then there are multiple pull quotes from the scammer, scattered around Steve. They read: "high stakes science fiction and deeply personal human stakes", then, "the science fiction and space opera setting is connected to very human issues," and then, "its science fiction, space opera, dystopian, political, and character driven storytelling," followed by, "the particular combination of science fiction, family, political conflict, survival, and human relationships," and lastly, "science fiction, space opera, family, disability, trauma, political oppression, survival, and the personal relationship between Mary and Davi."

The text under the icons for iPod, phone, and internet communicator has been edited to read, "Science fiction," "Space opera," and "Character driven storytelling," which match how Steve delivered the speech using the scammer's vague list items.

We had these on the wall above Declan’s crib but couldn’t bring ourselves to put them up. Now that I’m on my own, I want to see them. So I put them on the wall in my office. Almost the same arrangement. ❤️

I normally don't like to attach images to these writing prompts but this reader's comment at the end gave me goosebumps. One reader also noted that they didn't know two side characters were in a relationship – which is correct! No recap and not enough time on page! 🙃

So. He spends this whole book upset about she inadvertently killed a bunch of people. Even caused a dumb fight about it. Whole book. Mr. Pacifist. And now this. I feel like the past couple of chapters he was finally starting to almost achieve some kind of character growth. But this is like 20 steps back. I should be angry at that. I know it. It goes against the rules. But fuck - IT WORKS. He deserves this. You nailed this on the first draft? Jesus.

This band apparently blew up a few months ago and, since I don't have other social media, I probably missed it? Anyway: Angine de Poitrine. Holy crap they're amazing. They're anonymous, so I really hope they aren't jerks. I doubt it? Fingers crossed. Anyone else in on this?

First: The band has a black and white polka dot motif, referred after this by dots on background. The image is a meticulously decorated set, one half white on black, one half black on white. This is a great point about the "you're only 21" thing. There are 1.2k reposts of this. The post author doesn't allow quote-posts and replies are only allowed from their followers. There's no ALT text and no way for the majority of users to prompt the poster for it.

Bluesky post with an image missing ALT text. The image is 3 posts from Tumblr user estro-boi.

The first reads, "ngl kinda hate that 'this has been discussed extensively you're just 21' tweet cos it was directed at a trans woman who was getting dogpiled for saying that the 'dangerous man in a dress' horror trope is shitty."

The second reads, "she was born in 2005, the right wing culture war against trans people has been going on for half her life, if she independently arrives at a correct take then how is that something worth mocking?? you got flowers sprouting through concrete, water them dumbass."
