This is one of the maddest sci-fi books I ever read. He was a pal of Tolkien and CS Lewis, but didn't get any of their success. It's really, really good. Totally insane, almost like a mythical parable.

What were barn owls called before barns? Nobody knows (I'm sure some nerds do know)...but in Polish, they're called płomykówka (p'wom-i-kuv-ka) which in English is little flame, which is kickass.
