Getting somewhere.

Just in case someone's wondering how I intend to output video.

Part of my "picking up old unfinished projects before starting any new ones" series (part X): let's build an open source/open hardware video out solution for the Nokia N-Gage. github.com/ngagesdk/N-V...

To test the portability of my PICO-8 emulator open8, I tried running it on DOS. Surprisingly, it wasn't that much work to get it going. @dosnostalgic.bsky.social

It's been a while ever since I worked on open8, but I definitely made some good progress today. Even Celeste seems to work now, at least to some extend. github.com/ngagesdk/open8

After finishing my last project, I reached out to the rights holder and received a respectful, friendly cease-and-desist letter. I don't feel bad about it; I learned a lot along the way. One lesson stood out: it's often better to pick up an old project than to start yet another new one. So I did!

After improving SDL3's N-Gage backend, I refactored my game to use SDL_Textures instead of intermediate SDL_Surfaces. There are still some backend issues to resolve, but the good news is that performance has literally doubled.

I wrote a few fast-path optimisations for the Nokia N-Gage back-end of #SDL3. It's still not perfect, but hey - the N-Gage never was and we loved it anyway, right? #影ケロ

Even though #Marchintosh is almost over, I just finished this restoration project of a Macintosh Classic II from 1993.

I just realised that the start-up screen on System 7 can be changed. 😮 This is nice. 🙂

Hey Apple folks! Ever seen one of these Macintosh Classic II ROMs?

Now we're talking! After installing the 68882, I added QuickSANE, which redirects SANE operations to the FPU. The entire system feels noticeably more responsive now.

I went on eBay looking for socks and somehow ended up buying an FPU for my Mac Classic II. Because nothing says impulse purchase like floating-point math from 1992. 😄

I'm currently repairing a Macintosh Classic I. I couldn’t save some pads that were damaged by capacitor leakage corrosion. Can anyone confirm if I correctly used the alternative vias instead?

Michael Fitzmayer @mupf.dev · 31/12/2025
Opened up a Mac Classic and found the original lithium battery… perfectly intact. 😮 Considering this brand's reputation for leaking, I did not expect that.

I think having a true 1-bit monochromatic display helps a lot. Even though the screen is small, everything is clearly visible.

Okay, ccleste by lemon32767 is a great port but removing all the macro magic wasn't fun. But hey, it compiles!

I swore I wouldn't do it … but of course the first QuickDraw "optimization" anyone suggests for flipping sprites on vintage Macs is: just store pre-flipped versions in memory. Now my code is cleaner, my pride is gone, and all it cost was 4 KiB of RAM. #RetroDev #Celeste

Sounds fun, but @falcogirgis.bsky.social's the one for that. I had my new vintage Mac in mind, actually.

I just repaired, restored, and modernized a Macintosh Classic II - without any prior classic-Mac experience - and I’m blown away by how surprisingly modern it feels in 2025.
