Hey so it’s our anniversary today. We’ve been together for thirty years. Here’s a pic of us in 1996 and a rather more recent one from the other year.
Ollie in a checked shirt and ponytail, holding a pint. I have a blonde bob and very straight teeth. I also have green nail varnish and a pint. Check that 90s choker. He’s 22 and I’m 24, we’re in the White Hart.A rather plumper version of both of us, taken in Blakeney in 2024. We both have sunglasses, Ollie has a hat and a yellow floral shirt.

Ollie, a middle-aged bearded white man in a dark hat and a pale floral shirt, leans against a large, chunky standing stone. He's looking out across the Gulf of Morbihan but you can't tell that from the picture. The stone is surrounded by rough scrubby land.

This stone is very different depending on which angle you look at it from.

Also, I talked about this the other day, but I was absolutely terrified by this book cover when I was three or so.
It's the Chinese Bell Murders by Robert van Gulik, again. A skeleton with rotten clothes gone to rags is trapped under a large bell.

I had a dream last night that @dj-acid-reflux.bsky.social showed me a large papier-maché cow he‘d made. It was based on the one in this picture. It was a bit of an odd shape because it was foreshortened to match the pic. It was in a cardboard box and orange cat Jim was asleep on its back. #cowinabox

(I used to have to hold books with scary covers by the edges so my fingers didn't touch the e.g. Screaming Skull or that skeleton under a bell on the Judge Dee book.)
A bad scan of a Panther edition of The Chinese Bell Murders by Robert van Gulik. A skeleton in rags is trapped beneath the bell.

My dad had this edition and I associate the frisson of looking at it with the house we lived in until I was four, I must have taken it down from the shelf myself as my parents were quite careful about this sort of thing.

Saw this in an antiques shop earlier. Apparently Royal Doulton did various plates etc. in a Bazzy Tap (thanks to @florencehrscott.bsky.social for that abbreviation) style in the early 20th century.

There are various ‘beach houses’ there, mostly kind of ramshackle and rather charming. In the book, protagonists Thea and Edward spend the day somewhere rather similar, at Edward’s beach house, aka The Shed.

Here he is in something I dunno, 14th century. We were in a chateau. He spent twenty minutes talking to the room guide and D&D before I took this photo.
Ollie, a white, middle-aged bearded man wearing a white shirt with birds on and a hat made of burgundy felt with a round crown and two longer pieces of fabric hanging down over his shoulder. It's medieval but I'm not 100% sure of the exact period. He looks perfectly normal, like he could probably wear it in the street.

A hot day, scorched grass, Ollie (a white middle-aged man with a beard and a straw hat) stands in the shade of a large menhir. It's about 13ft tall I guess and chunky. It was so incredibly hot we only stayed about five minutes. The interpretation board for the stone, which tells you various things in French, Breton, and English. For example, the stone is more than five mteres tall including what's underground. It has various carvings on the surface (these were very hard to see when we went) and it's very definitely phallic if you look at it from the correct angle.

Look at this horseshit. (I've blurred the text as it's a job i'm doing.) Word somehow doesn't understand that this is dialogue. This was never a problem before, what the fuck have they done to it? (Again, I don't need advice, I'm merely venting.)
A screenshot from a Word document. The grammar check has flagged the end of a sentence "... is a deserter." suggesting that we don't need two punctuation marks. So it's saying that because we have a period we don't need to close the speech marks, or alternatively, because we have speech marks we don't need the full stop.

I can't tell you how angry this makes me.

Even though we do not require more mid-century meat plates and tureens, Ollie went to the chazza and found these, Royal Doulton ‘Lynn’ pattern. They’re from c.1930 but I think they look very ‘60s does 30s’ which is nice. £8 each.

I often take 'accidental' photos of my fingers/hand when I'm using my phone to take pictures. I usually delete them. When I was looking for a megalith pic earlier I found this work of genius.
An iPhone image of my fingers, very close to the lens and blurred. Between them is an excellent shot of Ollie's foot in a brown Converse boot. His shirt, a dark print with orangey red roses, can also be seen top left. This shot would be impossible to recreate I reckon.

@matwinser.bsky.social shared a post earlier about 'terrible things you've seen in a holiday cottage'. I couldn't respond or quote the original post but obviously you all need to see a few things from a place we stayed in 2013. It was absolutely rammed with decorative nonsense.
A glass topped coffee table. the frame is like the ribs of a boat. There's a plush cat sitting on it, and a rope macrame mat thingThe painting over our bed. We called it 'The Tit Lady'. It's a woman with a weird headress, it's slightly spooky, she's topless (the picture only goes down to her tits).a wooden bar stool shaped like a whale's tail. It's in the kitchen, at the 'breakfast bar' - it was in the way all the time because it's massive. There's a normal bar stool next to it.A fishing net with life buoy and dangling fisherman. It's attached to the wall in one of the bedrooms. It's kind of like something you might get in a sea side pub if the owners were that way inclined.
