We were absolutely delighted to work with Southampton University's Centre for Music Education and Social Justice last week by facilitating a composition workshop given by @anitadatta.bsky.social (York Uni) & Dr Kiko Shao (Cardiff Uni) both of whom have composed hymns for our Inclusive Hymn Project.

63 studies: women who assert their ideas, make direct requests, and advocate for themselves are liked less. They're also less likely to get hired—and it hasn't improved over time. When will we stop punishing women for violating outdated gender stereotypes?

For Women's History Month, we would like to introduce you a child prodigy who later fought for her music to be taken seriously, Maria Rosa Coccia (1759-1833) was a composer, teacher, and harpsichordist. She worked to convince everyone that women can write just as well as men youtu.be/BhVWdajgvq4?...

This multi sectional work was composed by Marianna von Martines, who was an accomplished composer. For a context of when she composed, she was a contemporary of W.A. Mozart and a student of J. Haydn. youtu.be/LEf6FNuQ7xU?...

Do you know this composer? As Alex Ross stated in The New Yorker 2018, "not only did Price fail to enter the canon; a large quantity of her music came perilously close to obliteration. [This instance is] a potent symbol of how a country can forget its cultural history." youtu.be/3qhS07P1tW4?...
