Okay SORRY to keep posting reddit screenshots but since I'm not on twitter it's my main source of what's going on with mainstream swifties and I cannot stop screenshotting this madness

Carly Rae's Day and Night album is what it sounds like when someone's actually in love with the person they want to be with. No need for Showgirl bullllshit.

I have complicated feelings about TLOAS in general. Is not that I hate it, because I don't. But I don't play it either. I largely forget about it. As an elder millennial and an eldest daughter, track 5 makes me cry. And I know a lot of people find it cringe but being slightly older than Taylor I can relate to the feeling behind the song, like i know what she means when she says "we all dressed as wolves and we looked fire". And I did dance around my kitchen to the tunes of Opalite and The fate of Ophelia. But then, other music came out. My favorites would still cloud my mind and I'd find myself constantly muttering YOYOK, My tears ricochet, Tolerate it, Chloe or Sam or Sophia or Marcus and so many others.....but rarely any TLOAS. This new batch, feels like ... Not Taylor. In fact all TLOAS feels disconnected from what I became used to. I loved seeing people posting the meaning of words she used in her songs like 'Soliloquy', the nuisance of her lyrics, the literary references and just generally lyrics that were layered in meanings. TLOAS and it's encore, feel crude, obvious and superficial. Sure, it's giving us a lot of info on TnT, but maybe more than I care to know, or about things I dont need to know (as fun as 'Wood' is, I didn't really need to know).

And in times where, especially in this last few weeks, music has been front and center in the conversations about Genocide, evil billionaires, Zionism and the general need of the average human to feel peace, to not worry about how we are going to pay for our next meal or if suddenly my neighborhood is going to burst up in flames, this songs feel especially disconnected.

Did I play them the minute my Spotify notified me of their release? Yes, yes I did. Am I currently listening to them? No. I'm blasting Macklemore in every single speaker I own.

It sucks bc I know she can write good happy love songs that are just fluffy and fun and unserious😭 Gorgeous, Stayx3, I think he knows, paper rings, London Boy, ME!

And I know she can write good happy love songs that are romantic and about “your person” 😭 CIWYW, Lover, KOMH, Opalite

So why on a whole album + deluxe focussing on that vibe is it such a struggle 😭 too much focus on the haters girl I’m having a rly hard time understanding that the same person who wrote pre-TLOAS wrote all of this. Especially bc she knows what she’s good at and has been actively campaigning her skills for accolades.

Yes she’s always been corny and petty I love corny and petty Taylor! I stuck by the TTPD golden retriever line, Down Bad when everyone hated it, I love So High School! But it just rly feels like someone else’s approach to those feelings, it’s not consistent w what I’d expect from her when it comes to tongue in cheek cheesy songwriting.

Maybe this is the wrong sub to be this critical in 🫣 I heavy fuck with the first 4 tracks of TLOAS but the rest feel written by a different person and what’s eerie to me is that lots of ppl feel that way about the first 4 vs the rest…. I wonder if there’s anything to that about if they were written earlier idk. If I had to say the quality I want from this era given its themes of happiness and fun, I’d propose Opalite and Gorgeous. Maybe KOMH too. But everything just feels flat and lacking a vibe 😭

ETA: maybe she’s breaking the 4th wall too much this era. Her best songwriting feels really intimate when it’s a close look at her own feelings and life so when songs feel like she’s explaining herself to the public with a megaphone it loses all its intimacy and warmth for me, like a caricature. Her best love songs take us inside the relationship, where lots of these focus on the public view of the relationship. If most of her work is by Taylor Swift the person, tloas is by Taylor Swift the pop star
