Ossoff: "They've unleashed federal agents to kill Americans on the streets of our cities with impunity. That's Mike Collins's immigration policy. And that's what you'd expect from the bigot congressman who called for executed immigrants by throwing to their deaths out of helicopters."

Hegseth wants to livestream an execution by firing squad? Huh. If he’s gonna livestream, I rather thought he’d have gone for having him ripped apart by live tigers.

"Empire of Grift” by @anneapplebaum.wsocial.eu
Slowly, the Brazilians were learning the same lesson as other American allies around the world: The United States of America is no longer the entity they knew. And American power is no longer deployed solely by trained diplomats and reliable officials, working through state channels. Informal envoys, private companies, online grifters, and hardened ideologues both inside and outside the government matter more. Unlike their predecessors, these people do not talk about spreading democracy, and don’t want to build long-term relationships. They don’t care about America’s reputation. They are deploying the tools of American diplomacy and government for their own purposes, to promote their own business interests or their own ideological goals, because, suddenly, they can.

The internet is so weird sometimes.
A horizontal four-panel meme digital graphic featuring a paleontology joke about whale evolution. In the top-left panel, a brown, four-legged Pakicetus walks toward the right on land, saying, "Indohyus, my brother. I've decided to search for more food in the waters." In the top-right panel, a green-yellow canine-like Indohyus stands facing left, responding, "You will regret this, Pakicetus. The enviornment will force you to adapt," while the head of Pakicetus replies, "I just need some shrimps lol / I will be perfectly fine." The second row features a large black header box on the left reading "50 million years later..." in bold italicized white text, while the rest of the light blue panel depicts the massive side profile of a blue whale making loud vocalizations rendered as text above it ("AAAAOOOOOOOOOOO / OAAAAAAH / MRUUUUUUUUH") alongside a tiny white-tailed deer head looking at it in shock. The bottom panel shows a close-up of the blue whale's head and baleen plates bellowing "BWOOOOOOOOOOEEEEEE" on the left, directly opposite a larger image of a white-tailed deer staring wide-eyed at the viewer on the right with the text "WTF" written above its head.

GD can strike a fatal demoralizing blow to the protests just by releasing everyone they've imprisoned! It'd be diabolically clever … if only they were capable of being clever.

I’m suddenly struck by the thought that if we ever launch a Voyager 3 that’s destined to eventually cross the heliopause and enter interstellar space, it should have this engraved on its Golden Record.
The classic line-drawing from the comic series XKCD by Randall Monroe, depicting a complicated looking tower of variously dimensioned rectangular blocks stacked carefully atop one another labeled “All modern digital infrastructure,” and down at the bottom right corner is a thin little peg keeping the whole thing from falling over into pieces labeled “A project some random person in Nebraska has been thanklessly maintaining since 2003.”

Companies that offer health insurance, or any insurance really, should be required to organize as nonprofit consumer owned cooperatives. People pay premiums for the purpose of sharing risk. Why should anyone be allowed to buy the right to pull a handful out of that pot and just walk off with it?
