Commander Tax applies to the activation cost.

Friends! I have NEVER in my 15 years of commander built a Rule zero deck. I wanna change that. The only thing I wanna do is Westvale Abbey. Is starting with a land in the command zone too strong? It counts as my land drop per turn and flipping it is the same requirements as normal.

Thank you! I am starting to branch out a bit more so thank you for noticing!!!

Talking about plants made me go outside!

3201

Now I wanna buy more plants

Ty ty. They need a good trim but I hate to do it when they are flourishing like this!

My garden isnt great rn but the rose bush mom and I planted is blooming!

120

My main point would just be that. Its weird to watch the exception become the norm

100

Yes I understand. I also took issue with it then.

000

Yup I didn't like it then either to be fair!

000

Whether or not its tame isnt really my concern. Its the effect of the spell itself. I am genuinely surprised that the name of the cards (or effects in this regard) are the same. Its just shocking.

Maybe in a world where people dont do the "just get a keepable seven" mulligan but most time people get more chances to get a good hand.

MTGBert @mtgbert.bsky.social · 05/10/2025

Honestly depends on the deck for me. I personally dont think there is a hard and fast rule for how many lands you have to run but I definitely adjust my decks more than the average person. That said if that say thats how many they would like to run don't push and just let it go.

To elaborate here that people saying “on paper” are also wrong. Just because it doesn’t have the check list items doesn’t mean it doesn’t have synergy. That’s IN the rules about brackets. People who bracket angle are in fact using the system incorrectly. Synergy defines your bracket as much as GC.

Put 38+ lands in your Commander decks. You'll mulligan less (or better). You'll play more real games. You'll win more. You'll have more fun or at the very least be less frustrated.

I have been pretty rude to myself lately so I will start fixing that. Let's start with saying that I am extremely proud of the last few decks that I have brewed. They legitimately feel like home. G'raha Tia, Celes, and Eshki Dragonclaw all have made welcome additions to my stable.
