Great model organism, great project, great labs, great location. If you are thinking about doing a PhD, what more do you want?

Our department at Genentech is hiring. We're looking for a freshly-minted PhD (0-3 years) protein biochemist / structural biologist to join as a Sr Scientist. A rare opportunity to join our group leader job family at a more junior level than we usually hire.

I'm a bit late to the party over here. I'll be advertising a BBSRC-funded postdoc position soon. So if anyone wants to solve some outstanding questions in limb development - please get in touch. We have a variety of models and approaches (everything from stem cells to sharks). towerslab.weebly.com

Great sounding projects, Brian! Is there a deadline for applications, or should interested parties simply get in touch to discuss? Just want to have the info before I circulate to some of my undergraduates

...of genes found to be enriched. Overlap between the 3 studies had only one gene. I now teach this example as a caution to u/grad students to not believe the hype... Inevitable with new tech but proteomics I thought more mature than that... (2/2)

Ha! This reminds me of early microarray papers from 2002 comparing stem vs differentiated cell gene expr tonidentifyb'stemness' genes. 2 studies back to back in science, similar number of DEGs but really poor correlation. A third study a few months later, same number... (1/2)

I recently made a comic complaining that NASA refuses to listen to my good ideas for improving the Solar System (xkcd.com/2750). To my delight, NASA’s Science Mission Directorate has sent me an actual expert panel evaluation of my “flatten the planets” proposal! Sadly, they decided not to fund it.
